This year has been an incredibly emotional year full of new experiences caused by unexpected and drastic changes. While there have been many hardships in 2020, we have also been given the opportunity to grow, heal, and mentally or emotionally mature. Some have had to heal after loved ones have died, some recover from physical illnesses, others have to mentally heal from the isolation, loneliness, and stress that this year has brought. This exhibition revolves around healing and the many rituals that help us in achieving healthiness.

This relief depicts a mother and child, both alive, along with a nurse who had helped with delivery. Marble Votive Relief Fragment of Goddesses, Mother, Nurse, and Infant was probably an offering to a healing deity such as Asclepius or Hygieia, to thank the gods for the safety and health of everybody involved in the childbearing process.

Healing is a process. Some of us still carry the heavy weight of grief or stress that some of the events in 2020 have caused. While this nowhere near measures up to the heavy weight of the cross or the burden of being or caring for the child of God, connections can be made to the weight we all carry. Meanwhile, some are still physically recovering from an illness, similar to Caravaggio having to heal after getting sick. Others are taking a rest, but will continue on their journey of healing.

In this painting, the holy family of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus are resting as they have arrived in Egypt, having fled due to threats to kill the baby. In the foreground, Mary feeds her baby, with the shape of her body echoing the wall behind. Mary and Jesus are nearest to the viewer, with the wall full of growing vines blocking a section of the cloudy background. Gentileschi wanted the viewer to focus on the three figures rather than a background.

In this oil painting, Chardin depicts a mother instructing her two children to say grace before their meal. The theme of depicting prayer was a popular one at the time that this painting was created. Chardin's depiction of an everyday scene, humble and real, emphasizes the virtue of the household. This painting is a good reminder to be grateful for the things in life that we do still have, even during these times of stress.
