In general would your family be considered formal or casual?

I would consider my family to be pretty casual. We have times when we are formal, for example at events or church but the rest of the time we have a lot of slang that we use among siblings and even with my parents. There aren’t very many topics that we would consider horribly taboo either so we talk and joke about a lot of things that would not be considered formal. This makes it fun because we can usually be found joking around, laughing, and teasing one another.

Was conflict dealt with in a direct or indirect manner?

It sort of depends on the situation exactly but I would say that most of the time conflict was dealt with directly. Most people in my family aren’t afraid to let eachother know how they feel and let it be hashed out if it needs to be. I would say that the only exception is my older sister and myself who tend to play things a little more passive aggressive. The rest of my siblings and my parents can usually be expected to speak their mind.

Who made the decisions in your family?

I would say that my mother and my father do a really great job at making almost all decisions in collaboration. I would say that my dad makes decisions about things that neither of them care about that much but when my mom has an opinion she will usually get her way,. On larger issues, however, that they both care about, they usually talk about it a lot and then make a decision together. I hope in my future to be able to make decisions like my parents because I have observed them making compromises and have seen that communication really is key in relationships.

How did you learn about religious matters?

Religious matters were mostly taught through weekly church attendance and then the application of those practices at home. In addition to just attending church we would do things like praying before we eat dinner and praying before we go to sleep. In those ways I guess some religious practices were taught by example from my mom and dad. As my siblings and I have gotten older we also simply talk about religious matters often.
