- lots of students from northern communities come from small communities that have no high schools so their options are limited to continue their education
- The dangers of leaving the communities had a negative effect of parents and students feeling safe leaving
- We need to build a community in the city, create and build relationships to ease the anxieties of leaving their communities (comfort zone, home away from home)
- land based learning activities within the communities (teachings)
- Our youth a usually lost during these transitions and its a positive to see the successes of these land based learning programs to remedy this
- tools they will never forget and be able to use moving forward
- the family is so important in our culture and it important to have their support as we adapt in this new world and take on new challenges
- leveraging indigenous knowledge but doing it in an indigenous way
- have elders home in to talk about indigenous geography or translate languages
- infusing our own stories and our own views in the curriculum
- indigenous others minds instead of being ac colonial outlet
- having non indigenous people participating - is important but its important for indigenous people to experience it first
- how are we going to move forward without knowing ourselves. The youth can have the opportunity to share their knowledge
- protecting knowledge, sacred knowledge that should no to shared.
- it is a challenge in communities to let go and be brave enough and put the things in place to help share knowledge.
- from a young age being outdoors and learn their teachings.
- integrate knowledge into our lives instead of integrate ours into others
-learning a new normal

- restorative education, how to get students back to being their better selves. finding their best qualities and building upon those qualities.
-looking at the whole person. acknowledging different aspects of the whole person and having community come in to teach about all aspects of being a whole person. it is not just about what you learn in the classroom.
- its difficult to bring people into northern communities because its expensive (lack of resources)
- the good people of the community as role models to speak morally and ethically from a place of experience and knowledge.
- most communication is non verbal and you do not feel the sense of the people and what is being said. (they way they carry themselves, speak)
- educational institutions are supportive of overall wellness of their students - balance of school/sports/ceremony. they care about you as a whole person and what it takes for you to be successful.
- educational training is not always enough, they need to be morally responsible for students welfare.
- it has to be embedded in a ethical code. you can just talk about it, they need to live it and be in. they need to see the moral code in the space so that they can feel safe. the teacher has a responsibility to balance authority and respect.
- a teacher is many people to a child. we are all teachers, teaching is a action.
- as we go about being who we are in the world, there always has to be the hope that we are returning to something that gives us life.
- values of love and trust, love and truth.
- knowledge in the educational system, in the books it not our knowledge. trusting a system we have never been able to trust.
- the climate has changed, more quickly now. its time for native knowledge and philosophy about the world to make an impact. the harmonious relationship with the environment.
- 7th fire

- By showing that we are historically tenders of the earth, mother nature, and showing by example. Having non indigenous people understand that everything we fight for is not just for us, but for the future of their children as well. The old way of hate and anger gets us no where. Mutual respect.
- non native staff that are hired because they are open to experience everything that would be involved in the school. It is important that staff is open to interact with children in this way. if you're going to interact with the indigenous community you need to believe in, and know, the the indigenous world view.
- you don't need to know everything, just be willing to learn and have respect.
- making ourselves known as we know ourselves
