They were able to go in the direction they wanted, and it was an accurate way to show what land they would in counter. Also, they could find their way home if they were lost, and using a map in the past wasn't as accurate. The compass, was needed a lot to be able to navigate. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that the magnetic compass is the greatest technological advancement. It allowed navigators to know where they were in accordance to the North and South Poles. This meant that the sailors had a lesser chance of getting lost at sea. When paired with the portolan map, the compass also allowed to know routes to well-known ports.</div>]]></description>
