Dear New 5th Graders,

You will probably learn a lot from your 5th-grade experience. You will read a variety of books like Wonder, Blood on the River, and Bridge to Terabithia. You will also do a lot of activities. For example, you might have Fun Friday every Friday. When you complete your work, on Friday, Ms. O’Connor will put a few activities to do. It changes every week. You may or may not have it. It depends on the pandemic. You might attend a few field trips. I do not know much about the field trips since my class did not go to it but, there is Outdoor Ed, the Aquatic Center, etc. My two most memorable activities are the Cardboard Challenge and the Poptart House. The Poptart House is where you build a gingerbread house but you use pop tarts instead. You and your class are very lucky.

Ms. O’Connor is an amazing teacher and there are a few things you should know about her. She is very kind-hearted and patient. Her rules will probably be to pay attention and participate. She does get a little bit annoyed if work is late but she would rather have it late and correct than early and the answers are wrong. To her, it is important that you are yourself with her. Not only does she want you to treat her as a teacher, but also as a friend. It is very important to be comfortable with her and to ask her anything. She and your class are very lucky to have each other!

There are many things you should know about 5th grade but one of the most important pieces of advice is that you should ask questions if you have them.

Dear new 5th graders,

This year you are going to learn a lot. You will learn a lot about math like fractions, coordinate planes, and decimals. you will also read many books as a class like Wonder, Blood on the River, and Bridge to Terabithia. On Fridays, we have a fun Friday which is a fun activity you do if you finished all of your work for the week, The activities could be drawing, crafts, pixel arts, and more, there will be a couple of activates each Friday so you could choose whichever one you want! We also do fun projects like writing narratives, or one of my favorites, the cardboard challenge! You might have done the cardboard challenge a couple of times before in other grades but we still do it in 5th grade. You will also go on field trips, our class didn't get to go on any field trips but you will, there is outdoor ed, and the aquatic center, and lots more!

Mrs. O'Connor expects you to always turn in your work, be truthful if you haven't finished your work or if you need help. She also wants you to be engaged in everything that we do so she might pick you to answer a question or read a passage if you don't usually raise your hand. There really aren't any "rules" except for to always turn in your work and talk to Mrs. O'Connor if you need something or want to talk to her. Never be afraid to ask a question

My advice is to always work hard, turn in your work, always pay attention, volunteer and be nice to the teacher. Have a great 5th-grade year!
Sincerely,
Reese Talbot

There might be Fun Friday but make sure to finish all your work! Since I am stuck online, I don’t know what field trips you might attend but I know you will go to outdoor ed. The thing that stuck out to me a lot is doing all my schoolwork on zoom. Most of the schoolwork is online.

Dear New Fifth Graders

Do you like making gingerbread houses? I do. It's what we did the day before Winter Break. In 5th grade. We read Wonder, Blood On The River, and Bridge to Terabithia this year and you will too next year. You'll do many things on Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. You do argumentive essays, non-fiction articles, and personal narratives. You might even do Liberty's Kids. We didn't do any field trips this year, but you 5th graders might be able to go to Outdoor Ed and see the Wonder movie. For the Wonder movie, you go to the THEATRE! We didn't get to. Outdoor Ed is basically camping, but a lot more fun. You would get to skip school for 4 DAYS! My most special fifth-grade memory was making the gingerbread house because it was so fun, another one is our culmination drive-thru. But you'll do something like that, or better, at the end of the year.

Your teacher is Mrs. O'Connor, and she the BEST. But, you have to focus in fifth grade, and if you don't get good grades, you won't make it to middle school, and no one likes that, right? When you're in Mrs. O'Connor's class, you can't interrupt, you can't shout either. No teacher likes that. But, she's really nice and funny. She tries to make it as fun for us as possible! You will love her because I personally think she was my favorite teacher in Mohr.

The most important thing about fifth grade is probably your behavior. You have to act responsibly. You need to focus on what the teacher's saying and listen. You need to be disciplined. How will you make it to sixth grade? In sixth grade, you have to turn in your homework or it's an immediate F. You have to turn in your assignments early in fifth grade, too.

Well, fifth grade's not as stressful as you think it is. It's AMAZING! I hope you have a great year.

Sincerely.
Akanksha Kaku

Dear New 5th Graders,

Welcome to 5th-grade! You will probably read three great books, Wonder, Blood on the River, and Bridge to Terabithia. There is also something called Fun Friday. Fun Friday is where Mrs.O’Connor puts some fun activities to do on Friday. However, you must complete all your work in Google Classroom and Zearn to do the activities. Some appealing activities you might do in 5th grade are the Cardboard Challenge, the Poptart House, pixel arts, the NF Feature Article, and more. Another activity would be the Digital Portfolio, after each activity or work you have done, it's best to take a screenshot of it and write a reflection in your Digital Portfolio Slidedeck. You also might attend a few field trips if the pandemic ends. There will be Outdoor Ed and the Aquatic Center. Those will probably be the two main field trips in 5th grade.

Your teacher Mrs.O'Connor is an excellent and helpful teacher. Her class rules would be to always turn in your work, ask questions, be truthful, and always check Google Classroom and Zearn. She will sometimes check in with you if you have a missing assignment or if you are rushing through your work. Mrs.O'Connor cares a lot about your learning status.

I have three pieces of advice to give to new 5th graders. The first is, do not forget to check your google classroom for assignments. But having good time management is probably the most important skill to have for a successful year. Planning all your times for homework, tests, and studying will be a great help. “The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot." - Michael Altshuler. The final piece of advice is to always ask questions if you don’t understand something. Never be afraid to ask questions, even if you think you're dumb asking this question. It's extremely common to be scared or feel dumb to ask a question. But if you don't ask questions, that moment and knowledge will slip away and you still will not figure this problem out. It does take courage to ask a question sometimes. But in the end, when you ask that question, you will be very glad that you did. Lastly, do not forget to have fun! Have a great 5th-grade year!

Best of luck,
Henry Yu

Dear New 5th Graders

Congratulations, you made it to 5th grade. You are probably wondering what you will do this year. This year the 3 great books you will be reading are Wonder, Blood on the River, and Bridge To Terabithia. You will also have something called Fun Friday. Fun Friday is where Ms. O'Connor posts some fun and exiting activities to do on Friday 😀. But you can only attend Fun Friday if you finish Zearn and google classroom. You will make a gingerbread house with pop tarts or crackers day before winter break. there is a challenge of cardboard. The Cardboard Challenge! You will have another activity that will last through the whole year. Digital Portfolio! In science you will get to do tests. Such as color changing and you'll see the rest. We also have this TWIG lesson for science. Heading on to math you will learn about shapes, a little bit of geometry, fraction, mixed fraction, and coordinates. You will also attend a few field trips. Don't worry, they might be digital or in real, it is actually due to the pandemic, so don't worry. One memory I want to share is when we made the gingerbread house together as a class. Another awesome memory is when I became the star of the week. It was the best time presenting in front of the whole class.

Ms. O'Connor is very kind-heated and patient. She loves us to follow rules. The rules are to always turn in the assignments in time, don't be a fake person be a real person, she does not like if our work is late but she would rather have it late and correct than early and the answers are wrong. There are important things Ms. O'Connor likes to follow rules, ask questions, be a true person, and always have your work complete, it is fine if your work is a little late but it needs to be correct.

An helpful advice I would give to you guys would be to always be prepared for what will be coming next. Another good memory was when I showed my star of the week poster!

Your teacher, Mrs. O'Connor is awesome. She has an awesome personality and she has a cute, white, dog named Tucker. Mrs. O'Connor is the best Teacher. She is kind, helpful, courageous and some much other good things!

A piece of advice I would give the next 5th graders in this class will be that you should always have stamina. Things can be hard and tiring but keep on working and after you finish you will feel proud of yourself. And you always have to be prepared because no one knows what fifth grade will throw at you!

Have a great day!

Love,
Joanna Midhun

Dear New 5th Graders,

How's life so far? I hope it's good! You have to be ready for the coming year. It is going to be harder than 4th grade, as Mrs. O’Connor is trying to prepare you for 6th. This year, math and science will be how it normally is. You will complete modules in the Eureka Math book and you will head to the science lab to have science with Mrs. McCarthy. But writing and Social Studies will be different. In Social Studies, if you were in Mrs. Harsma’s class, you would have gone to Mrs. Carolan’s class and she would have told you a bunch of stories about explorers. This year, you will complete a book. In this book you will learn about the 13 colonies, in other words, what happened after the explorers reached America. In writing, you will write a lot of argumentative essays and write and design your own nonfiction article! Trust me, it’s so fun! You will also read books together, as a class. You will read Wonder, Blood On The River, and Bridge To Terabithia. They are all REALLY GOOD BOOKS! I don't know what field trips you will attend, but your teacher will inform you about that. Speaking of your teacher, you are going to be in Mrs. O’Connor´s class! She is a kind, beautiful, encouraging, helpful individual who HATES coffee and has a pet dog named Tucker. He is the CUTEST LITTLE CRITTER EVER!!! She also doesn't cook. Her husband LOVES cooking, so she leaves the cooking to him. She has a son and daughter named Connor and Madison. She is also half Irish. I know. Surprising. But you’ll get used to it! Her favorite colors are Scarlet Red and Purple. She also hosts Fun Fridays! This happens every Friday. You will learn about something, and get to do something fun too, like an art piece, or pixel art. In my opinion, sometimes she is childish, but the fun kind of one! She is going to help you have a blast in 5th Grade! There are also a lot of things that won't seem so fun. If you don't finish your assignments, then you wont get to attend Fun Friday. THIS IS WHY YOU MUST NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! For the first two months, I was always submitting my math assignments late. This meant that I could not attend Fun Fridays and that on my report card, I was marked to not be ready for 6th grade. You can't afford to do this! This will leave a bad imprint on you! When my mom had to go to the parent teacher conference, Mrs. O’Connor told my mom how many assignments I missed. You see, this was all because of Bad Time - Management. I took WAY too long to finish my assignments, and I chatted with my friends a LOT. This got me distracted a lot. You have to pay attention, develop time - management skills, and NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! I hope you will have an amazing journey through your last year of elementary school! Good Luck!

Sincerely,

    Ahana Banerjee

    6th Grader at Thomas S.

Dear New 5th Graders,
There's a lot to 5th grade but don't worry. Everything will be fine. Here's what 5th grade is like according to me.
In 5th grade you will read many amazing chapter books including Wonder, Blood on the River, and Bridge to Terabithia. You will learn about things like pH in science, the American Revolution in Social Studies, Coordinate Planes in Math, Narrative Writing, Fiction Writing, and Non-Fiction Writing in Writer's Workshop, Reading Strategies in Reader's Workshop and so much more! You will also go to Outdoor Ed if Covid is gone and have a pool party at the end of the year. Mrs. O'Connor also does a Sundae party in class and a Peep War. You'll do a lot more!
Mrs. O'Connor, your teacher, is a very nice person. She is married and has two children. Her son's name is Connor and daughter's name is Madison. She also has a cute dog named Tucker. We've seen all of them a few times on the Zoom Camera. Mrs. O'Connor doesn't like it when you fool around and don't listen. She also doesn't like it when you ask or say the same thing over and over again. Mrs. O'Connor isn't that great at math but she's the best writer I know! And she makes 5th grade the best!
Here are a few memories I have from this year. One memory that I have from this year is my first time meet Mrs. O’Connor. I was really shy and scared to talk but now I talk fearlessly in front of her! Another memory I have from this year is the first time I took the MAP test. I was under pressure but I knew that I had to take this test while I was calm.
And 5th grade is technically the base of your life so my advice is to take 5th grade seriously. 5th grade results count on middle school’s studies and the studies count on your middle school grades. It goes on and on until your career. Your school scores count in what type of career you go to as well. But don't worry about it and just do your best. That's what I do!

Sincerely,
Trisha

Dear New 5th Graders,

Welcome to fifth grade! You will learn many things this year. Let me give you a snapshot of what you will be doing this year. First of all, you will be reading 3 books. Wonder, Blood On The River, and Bridge To Terabithia. You will even get to watch the movie version of Wonder and Bridge to Terabithia! You will also be doing science in TWIG and with Mrs. McCarthy. In science, you will learn about matter, wildlife, water, and the stars. You will be doing math in Zearn and the Eureka Workbook. You will learn about strategies for equations, the coordinates system, and a lot of fractions! In Social Studies you will learn about Native Americans, Explorers, Conflicts in Early America, causes of the revolution, and the building of a new country. 2 memories that I had this year were making a gingerbread house out of pop tarts and learning with technology.

Mrs. O’Connor is one of the best teachers ever! She is a great teacher who uses a lot of technology to help you learn. She creates great projects and assignments which are always super fun! I think her pet peeves are grammar mistakes and talking when she says not to(DON’T EVER DO THIS, EVER). She likes Scarlet and Sliver. She hates coffee and loves chocolate.

My advice is to listen to the teacher. I hope you all are not in online classes this year because while online learning may be a little easier or better in some ways, you can’t see your friends and it is harder to “get to know everyone”. Either way, I think you will really enjoy 5th grade!

Here are some cool things you might do over the year! You will have a great time reading Wonder, Blood on the River, and Bridge to Terabithia. They are all awesome books but don’t go ahead or spoil the surprise in them! Unfortunately because of Covid, our class was not able to go on any field trips but if you do go on them I'm sure you'll enjoy them! In science with Mrs. McCarthy, there are a lot more Hands-On experiments that you will for sure love. In math this year you'll mostly learn about decimals and fractions. Some of my favorite times were reading or discussing books and playing games with the class! It probably would have been a field trip if we went to one. : (

Mrs. O'Connor's is AMAZING! She is super kind, helpful, and understanding! She makes activities fun and entertaining! She has 2 kids Connor and Maddison. She also has a Goldendoodle named tucker! She does NOT like Coffee. She is half Irish. Her birthday is June 14th. Her favorite foods are Mexican food and dark chocolate.

My advice to you this year is to keep a cool head and organize your tasks. Always check google classroom, the daily doc, and your email for updates. If you have an important question of doubt then get the answers you need. Having time management is important too. DOUBLE-CHECK EVERYTHING! Don't forget to always do your best!

From,
Aarohi Arun Karthik

Dear New 5th Graders,

Fifth grade is an exciting year! You will hopefully get to go on field trips and have parties. Some of the field trips are outdoor ed, the A’s game, and even a pool party! Some of the party’s are Halloween and Valentine’s day.

You will be doing grade 5 academics, reading 3 books Wonder, Blood on The River, and Bridge To Terabithia. Do with mrs. Davidson as usual and hopefully always participate in fun Friday. The best parts of the year will probably be going to outdoor ed and the pool party.

Mrs. O'Connor has two children, Connor and Madison, a husband, and a dog, Tucker. Mrs O’Connor is a real nice teacher but there are some rules you need to follow. To participate in fun Friday you have to the done with everything in zern and Google classroom. The same rules apply as years before and there is nothing new.

A very big piece of advice I would give to anyone reading this letter is stay organized and use your planner because your planner helps organize everything to make sure you're not missing an assignment on a normal year.

	Enjoy,

Ben

Dear New 5th Graders,

I welcome you to 5th grade. You will really enjoy this year. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 school was taken online. Even though, the interaction between the teacher and student was very lively. Learning was strengthened by interesting assignments paving way for individual learning. This was highly helpful for learning mathematics in particular. Festive celebrations like Halloween and Christmas, though arranged virtually was equally fun-filled and enthusiastic. The lesson taught in science and social studies were really interesting and evoked lots of interest in me. The learning of social studies was mainly emphasized through the mode of storytelling. Science class offered lots of scope for interesting experiences through experiments.

Mrs.O'Connor was a very kind-hearted person. She never reacts angrily with us. In fact, she was a true friend philosopher, and guide. We all like her very much for the enthusiasm exhibited by her throughout this year. She is a wonderful person. Mrs.O'Connor has a pet dog. His name is Tucker. She also has two children. Their names are Connor and Madison. Mrs.O'Connor expects everyone to finish homework in time. On Friday, you get cool activities. In order to participate, you will have to be finished with all of your homework both on google classroom and Zearn. If you don't, you are going to have to work on the assignments during Fun Friday. Trust me, you are very lucky to be in this class. Mrs.O'Connor is a very nice teacher, but make sure you finish what you're asked to do.

Make sure you listen to the instructions she gives you. You won't know what to do if you don't listen. Make sure to post your reading minutes every day. Set up alarms for your classes so you don't miss out. If you forget, your parents will get an email. To prevent any of this from happening, listen to my advice.

Hope you have a great year!
Warm Regards,
Madhavan Karthik

Dear New 5th Graders,

You will love 5th grade. It is full of fun activities and teaches you a lot. In fifth grade, you will learn about space, water, matter and energy, Explorers, Native Americans, 2d and 3d shapes, coordinates, P.O.V., reading techniques, writing techniques, persuasive/non-fiction/narrative writing, reactions, and more. There are also fun activities like making a gingerbread house with the class for Christmas. There is also Race across America, where you learn about 10 states of your choice and pretend to do a tour exploring them. There are a variety of fun assignments and things to do.

Mrs. O'Connor is a lovely teacher. She is always very kind and understanding. She has a son named Connor and a daughter named Madison. She also has a golden doodle called Tucker. If you could die of cuteness, one look and you would be dead. Make sure to give her gifts, she really appreciates them. Some stuff she even hangs up. She doesn’t like people who fake read, or people who don’t pay attention. Be careful and don’t do either of those. She will always be there to help you, so don’t be shy to tell her if you need help with something.

My advice is really simple. Do your best. Always try to pay attention, and it will be much easier to do whatever. Also, read carefully, on assignments, there is a lot of reading, so pay attention to the text. Be safe. Wear a mask at all times. And finally, be respectful to everyone. This isn’t so hard, right! Just be aware of anything you do.

Have a Great Year,
Sohum T.

Dear New 5th Graders, you will be making, drawing, and creating a lot of things. Projects like writing a Non-Fiction Feature Article and picking a topic on what to write about. Or making a Star Investigation Poster all about our Solar System and constellations. You might read books like Wonder, Blood On the River, or Wringer. I'm not so sure about field trips but you may go to the Aquatic Center for a pool party on the last day of school! My 2 most special 5th grade memories are at the start of the year when we were learning all of the class names. And my second one would be when we had middle school counselors and the principal from Harvest Park, come and present to us all about Middle school.

Ms. O'Connor is an amazing teacher! Some of her rules may include like, Raise your hand when you need to speak, or what she always says, "Ask three before you ask me". That means that if you're stuck on something ask three other people around you and if they also don't know then go ask Ms. O'Connor. Also, make sure you turn in your homework on time or she will hang you by your toenails! . . . Just Kidding.

I'm not the best at giving advice . . . but all I can say is that follow the rules but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Ms. O’Connor will understand and she is right by your side just like everyone else in the class. Do your best and give it all you got. It’s better to try your best and fail then not try and feel worse. Not everything is a competition unless you decide it is so. And finally, don’t listen to what others say about you.

Have a great year future 5th Graders!

From,
Kate = )

Hi 22/23 Fifth Graders!
Fifth Grade is goes pretty easy on you, for me it was easier than 4th.
If you know coordinates, fractions, geometry and conversion, you're going to have no problem in math.
You're probably going to do Twig Science. This year's class despised it. Most people thought the questions were very easy, like, "why do the stars seem to move?"
Mrs. McCarthy's Science Class was chaotic, she is not strict at all so you will probably get away with a lot of things.
Social Studies is your normal history class. You will most likely learn there.
Every Friday Mrs. O'Connor gives us, "Fun Friday." It's where you do a themed activity for 1-3 hours.
The Writing and Reading assignments were cool. We didn't get get to do fiction writing this year.
At first music is just singing random songs, but at the end of the year it's Social Studies 2.0.
P.E. is fun, you'll have to run the mile.
You'll have to watch a maturation and puberty video at the end of the year. Be prepared.
Mrs. O'Connor is not a strict teacher, she gives you the freedom to do many things. She has two kids, Maddison and Connor.

Hopefully this 22/23 class doesn't get into many dramas!
                                        -Nia

Dear New 5th Graders,
Welcome to Mrs.O'Connors 5th grade class! In this school year, you will have a movie night, pool party, and Outdoor Ed.
You are going to read a book called Blood on the Rivier, Wonder, and Wringer. They are all amazing books. You are going to do a lot of cool activities, my favorite was making the kites. We made the kites out of paper and straw. It was kind of hard, but if you follow the steps properly then it would be easy. I already told you about the field trips you are going on. I hope you guys go to outdoor ed. My special memory was when we made the wampum belts. It was hard the beads kept on falling off the string. I needed so much help from my classmates. But in the end, I finished it and I liked how it turned out.

Ms.O'Connor expects you to turn in your homework on time, not to talk when she is talking, not talk during tests and be nice.

I would just follow Ms. O'Connor's expectations to have a great 5th-grade year.

-Suvir

Dear new 5th graders, I hope you enjoy Mrs. O'Connor's wonderful class. This class is awesome.

The things that you will be learning about in 5th grade are Ecosystems and their delicate balance, How America was created, and fractions and decimals. One of my favorite activities is the wampum belts. They are these beaded belts with designs that you can create. You may read a book called Blood on the River. It is a book about Jamestown. I loved this activity called cardboard day. You can create anything you wish from cardboard. I also loved the star investigation. I like this because I love astronomy. You get to make a large sheet of paper filled with space facts and constellation facts.

Mrs. O'Connor is a wonderful teacher. She isn't too strict but doesn't let the classroom fall into chaos. Mrs. O'Connor doesn't like it when you talk when you are not supposed to be.

Be calm and have fun, 5th grade is Awesome! -Hudson

Dear New 5th Graders

Welcome to 5th grade, this year it's gonna be a lot of fun. Some of the activities and events that are gonna be happening this year will be art projects, books, field trips (maybe not all), math, science, reading, social studies and writing. Just a quick heads up, there are 2 projects one is called the Wampum Belt and the other is called Kazoon Kites. These projects require a lot of patience so when you do these keep your patience high. Some of the books you will read are Wonder and Blood on The River. Some field trips might to are the YMCA camp grounds for about a week and the fifth grade pool party. Some of the best moments in fifth grade are cardboard day and the fifth grade movie night.

Ms. O'Connor is an amazing teacher and is very kind. Ms. O'Connors rules are: don't talk when she's speaking, no talking in class unless you're allowed, be kind. Ms. O'Connor will let kids go to fun Friday if they have completed all their homework ,and if you haven't she'll make you do it in class. Ms. O'Connor will give swag tags for doing all your math homework or if you're caught being nice. She will also like it if you're attentive in class and are quiet when she's speaking. Some stuff that is important to Ms. O'Connor is when your attentive and when you be a good student.

Some advice I would give you is to always finish your homework and pass tests. I would also recommend studying for tests. You should also be attentive and not be a fake reader or writer. This would help you a lot in the future. You should also keep your Digital Portfolio updated. When a test happens I would recommend to stay calm, and if you don't know the answer come back to it later and if you still don't know do your best guess on tests.

-Yuvraj

I hope that this year, you'll be able to go on a few field trips like Outdoor Ed and the Aquatic Center (we couldn't go to Outdoor Ed because of CoViD).
Two of my best fifth grade memories are of Run Club (which I hope you sign up for because it's really fun) and the writing projects that we completed. She likes the colors scarlet and silver and her favorite flower is a Sunflower. But one of her pet peeves is when people talk when she is giving instructions or when people keep on forgetting something important, like a project that counts to your grade.
I wish you good luck this year!

Dear 22/23 fifth-graders, Welcome to Ms. O'Connor's class. This year we are going to cover tons of information. You will learn all about, fractions, decimals, 13 colonies, native Americans, and the American Revolution. Social studies to me was the most exciting. Especially when we got to watch Liberty Kids(you'll learn what that is shortly.) Once you're learning about the Native Americans you'll get the chance to make these really cool wampum belts. Although they might take some time to make the outcome is amazing. And in Science well lets just say there is a lot of information some you probably already know. Some of my favorite memories are probably from when we got to make gingerbread houses on our winter holiday party. Heres another one, when we first adopted our dolphin Johny as a class that was very exciting.
Here's a tip, always remembers to not to interrupt Ms.O'Connor while she is talking.(I'm sure you already know that)

One last thing before I go, always stay organized. Organization is key. Trust me. Everything will be in order, your assignments will be done on time and you worry less, all from organization, not only that but it helps prepare you for middle school.

Leena :),

New 5th Graders,
5th grade is relatively easy if you know the concepts, like coordinates and angles for math, learn a bit about science, and be athletic! You will read the following books throughout the school year; Wonder, Blood on the river, and possibly Wringer. You will watch the movies Wonder and Pocahontas, and possibly Pocahontas 2. There will be a pool party on 6/1. So something to look forward to!
If you do your work and listen to the teacher, then 5th grade will be really fun. You can earn these things called swag tags, and when you get enough, you can pick a prize out of the treasure box.
To sum this up, here is my advice. Hang out with the right people, keep up with the due dates of your homework, pay attention, charge your Chromebook, and don't stress too much over homework, that affected me. Try to stay out of drama, and practice for stuff in advance. Lastly, try to have fun, because if you are in 5th grade and not having fun, you're doing it wrong.

Dear new 5th graders,
Good luck in the upcoming year! You will have lots of fun, and do many cool projects.
If you're interested in history, we will be learning about geography, Native Americans, and the American Revolution.
If you like writing, then you'll love this year, because we do several pieces of writing! You will be doing a narrative, a NF feature article, an opinion piece, and many other small essays.
In terms of reading, you will be going into book clubs with separate books. As a class, you will read Blood on the River, which is about the Jamestown Colony. Another book you will read is Wonder. Wonder is, in my opinion, the best book that we read in class.
You will also do a lot on computers, but that helps you improve! Make sure you charge your computer every single day, or you will have to charge in class!
A couple of my best 5th grade memories are when we made Wampum Belts and Volume Zoo animals. For the Wampum Belts, we used a loom with string tied on it, and beads. Just be warned, it can be hard for some people! For the Volume Zoo animals, we made an animal with only rectangular prisms and cubes. What animal might you make?
Because of Covid, we didn't get to go to "Outdoor Ed". Outdoor Ed is a really fun time where parents drive everyone over to a campsite-like cabin area, where everyone stays for 3 days. Sound fun? If yes, you might be able to go!
One piece of advice I have is to ask Mrs. O'Connor when you have a question. So long as you don't interrupt her while she's teaching, you will get an answer. Make sure you follow ALL the directions, for that will help you succeed!
That's all you need to know for the coming year! The main thing is to have fun. If you do that, you will have no problem! Good luck in 5th Grade!
- Anjali

Dear new 5th graders,
This time is the border between elementary school and middle school. Don't give up, this is just the start. In the 5th grade, we will do lots of math, science, and art, and we will do fun projects. We have something called Fun Friday where we do super awesome things that sometimes also have us learn new things.
Also, remember to be a good student! Another thing about 5th grade is that whenever you do something good, you get something called a Swag Tag, which helps you earn points, and once you get certain amounts of points, you can pick from a treasure chest that Mrs. O'Connor filled with different things.
Mostly, we will focus on math and science, and we will be focusing on pre-algebra in math and matter, life science, water, and astronomy in science. You will read some books like Wonder and Blood on the River.
Anyway, that's all I have to say. Good luck in 5th grade!

    - Mukundh

Dear Incoming 5th Graders,
5th grade is your last year of Elementary School. And let me warn you, it is seriously fun! Mrs. O'Connor is a great teacher and you're lucky to be in her class. You will read lots of books. Some of them are; Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone (Not a horror book!), and of course, Wonder by R.J. Palicio.
You obviously have to finish your homework, but in 5th grade, if you don't, you miss fun friday. I know that fun Friday sounds kid-ish, but it's actually fun! You will do projects like Volume Zoo art, a whole lot of Pixel Arts, and you will make Wampum Belts etc. What's a Volume Zoo? I'm not telling you!
Some of Mrs. O'Connor's expectations from you are to charge your computer EVERY night, follow directions, be on your best behavior at all times, and to be on topic. Remember, Mrs. O'Connor has Go Guardian, which is an app that shows her your screen. If you are off topic, a note gets sent home to your parents. You will have homework everyday except for Fridays and usually, Mrs. O'C gives pretty predictable homework. For example, Zearn Module 4 lesson 3, and Eureka Math Module 4 lesson 3. She will assign homework every day and by Thursday, if it's not completed your name goes onto the Daily Doc. And a warning to all of you, please don't talk while Mrs. O'C is teaching. The trouble you will get into!
Well there you have it. A whole essay about 5th grade! Have a great year 5th Graders!

Dear, new 5th Graders, if you didn't know, sadly 5th grade is the last year of this elementary school! 5th Grade is pretty fun, so let me dig into important details of 5th GRADE! Now, your teacher is Mrs.O'Connor, and she is a good teacher. Now, you will read these two books: Wonder and Blood on the River.

Of course you need to finish your homework. IF you don't finish it, you will miss Fun Friday. Fun Friday contains activities like Wampum belts, tetrahedral kites, etc. If you wanna know all of them, im not gonna tell you them. As your in her class, you'll see more. Now, EVERY NIGHT, you need to CHARGE your COMPUTER. Not only that, but you ALSO need to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. Remember, you can't play unblocked games on your Chromebook not unless you want to be called out. Mrs.O'Connor has a app called GoGuardian that can see your screen. Trust me, you do not want to take the risk. Also, you have homework everyday except Friday and during the weekend. Also, one last thing, don't even interrupt when the teacher is talking. Its embarrassing!

There you have it! A WHOLE PAGE OF 5th GRADE. I hope you have a great year of 5th Grade. Lets just hope that may your good behavior be with you.

---- Victoria :D

You will also learn about the 13 original colonies in social studies. Some field trips you will go to are the Blackhawk Museum, Wonder Movie at a theater and an aquatic center.

Ms. O’Connor will be a fun and exciting outgoing teacher. Please make sure to listen to the teacher because she can get angry if you don’t listen. Also, make sure to do your work on time because then you won’t be able to participate in Fun Friday. Additionally make sure that every day you have a full bar of battery on your computer because Ms. O’Connor is a full on tech lady and you will guarantee to use your computer everyday.

My only advice for you in 5th grade is don’t do anything dumb.

This is your last year at Mohr. I am writing this to you because everyone has challenges and help can make it an easy challenge to overcome. Make new friends to support you throughout this year. You will be learning a lot about the revolution and you will also be able to go on many Field Trips. Many of them will be for 1 day. In May, you will be going to Camp Loma Mar for an overnight camping trip! You will learn a lot about nature as well as making friends with not only 5th graders, but also high school students. The camp counselors are in high school.

You will get to watch episodes of Liberty Kids ( A show on the American Revolution). In addition to social studies, you will also do a lot of math consisting of volume and fractions. You will be making 3D models on animals. Science is mostly on Twig Science (not my favorite)

Mrs. O'Connor is very nice and funny. She runs a lot of marathons and half-marathons. She has a dog named tucker and 2 children: Madison and Connor. She is not strict at all. Mrs O'Connor will have you read Blood on the River and Wonder (Both wonderful books). My final advice is: All ways try your best, don't go off topic, and You only competition is yourself. I hope you have the best final year at Mohr!

     -Evan 22/23

Dear 23/24 5th graders,
5th grade is the final year of Elementary School, and then who knows what is next! So for your last year, here are tips to make this a blast. First, you would want to stay on top of your work. When you do this, you can gain a reputation of being able to do things fast and neatly. Also, you won't be under much stress at all. Second, you want to STAY ON THE RIGHT TABS on your chromebook. I will be completely honest, I have been on the wrong tabs once during class, and you will get to realize it doesn't feel right. So just avoid those feelings, and stay on the right tabs. On to another topic now.
Some special things in fifth grade include going to the amazing movie Wonder, the Blackhawk Museum, where you can see tons of cool cars, human and animal history, and more, and finally what you've been waiting for: Outdoor Ed! I loved it because you felt like you didn't have any restrictions at all. You know yourself the best, and Outdoor Ed embraced that.
Ms. O'Connor's expectations are, one as we already covered staying on the right tabs, two, have mutual respect for everyone, and finally trying your best and completing work on time(and neatly). These will definitely make your experience easier.
Finally, to have a great year, just follow these rules and stay positive. Sometimes activities can be hard and might discourage you, but if you stay positive and look on the bright side, THIS YEAR WILL BE THE MOST MEMORABLE EVER.

So yeah.

From a 22/23 student,
Arjun

Camp is the best field trip because it was the longest one of them all.
Mrs. O'Connor is a very nice teacher. It was a amazing book to read and we also read wonder. After we finish the book our class watches a movie.

You will get homework everyday. If you don't finish your homework you have to finish it another day, but if you don't finish your homework on time(well that me on Friday) you will not be having a fun Friday. Ms. O'Connor will make you do the homework that you did not do. Ms. O'Connor has rules. I told you one of the rules. The rules are there is no talking when the teacher is talking. No running in the classroom. Ms. O'Conner has a pet dog that is called Tucker.

Never Talk when the teacher is talking. You cannot be in any random site you will be in trouble if you do that. If you have your best friend next to you, you should not talk to him or her because Ms. O'Conner will move you some where else and you might be sad, so do not take in class only when she said you can talk.

Sincerely
Aqeel
Have a happy 5th Grade Year!!!!

I hope this year you guys will get to go to outdoor ed, it was the best, mostly because my friends were there with me, and the food was great. Most importantly, you'll learn a lot about social studies, i'm not gonna give it all away but make sure you be good during class because she might put marbles in the jar. btw, if she hasn't told you already, once a marble or more falls from the marble jar, you get a class party.

Another thing I need to say is that Mrs. O'Connor is a good teacher, all you need to do for homework is maybe reading, zearn and eureka. If you don't finish that then you wont be able to participate in fun friday until you finish your work. Later on, you'll do some fun artwork, like making kites, making gingerbread houses out of poptarts, etc.

My personal favorite that I loved to do during 5th grade was watching the wonder movie, roller skating, and the pool party. They were all so fun and I hope you have fun with it too later in the year. Don't stress because if you have a good explanation on why you are doing something then you'll be fine. She is not that strict during the year, the only thing she HATES is if you say "mines" or "like" a lot.

ps. have fun.

- Kiera San

Dear 5th grader this year you will be reading the books wonder and blood the river. Wonder is a book about August Pullman and he has something going on with his face, That's all I will tell. Blood On The River is a book about the Jamestown colony and the many hardships they faced, now that may sound boring but trust me it was really good.

Now let's talk about what Ms. O'Conner's expectations are. First you have to charge your computer every night. Second no talking in the classroom (that was kinda obvious). Third and most important is stay on task, if you're in another tab Ms. O'Conner has Go Guardian which means she can see what tab you're in.

My advice is finish your homework or also you wont be able to participate in fun Friday, Also I think missing homework will affect your grades in a bad way. Make sure to also pay attention because if you don't pay you will be confused(unless she puts the same directions she told on the daily doc). So exciting! 5th grade is a lot of fun and you have the most wonderful teacher Ms. O'Connor! She is a really nice teacher and has 2 kids so she has a lot of experience. dealing with kids. She expects you to charge your computer every day because you will be doing a lot of online activities. You also have Fun Friday which is a Friday in every week where you get to do a fun activity if you complete your homework.

Speaking of homework you will get home work on the very first day of school so be prepared! usually the homework assignments are put in order like this (Zearn),(Eureka),(Whoooo's Reading), and there is sometimes a special activity like grammar, science, writing, ect. I mentioned book clubs above and you will learn more about that later, I won't spoil it for you! While we are talking about books you will be reading 2 books as a class, Wonder by R.J Palacio and Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone.
5th Grade is just a wonderful year and you will have a lot of fun being in 5th grade.

Dear New 5th graders,
5th grade rocks you will have so much fun! I have to say if you're in Mrs. O'Connors class you're super lucky. I know you have heard a lot about fifth grade and that it's super hard but you have got it all wrong. I would actually say 5th is easier than 4th. So congrats to make it to the last step of elementary.

Some things you will learn about are the 13 original colonies, space, opinion writing, feature articles, narratives, food webs/chains, Native Americans, Fractions decimals and more. You will read Wonder it is an awesome book! You will also then watch the movie after! Some other things I will mention you will go on a bunch of field trips, have book buddies and have a lot of new experiences. 5th grade also ha clubs for example Mohr Good News and Leadership. Also there are marbles so get as many as you can!
Here is a bit about Mrs. O'C : She has 2 kids Madison and Connor. Madison is a senior in high school, cheerleader, employee at Panera. Connor is attending Butte College to become a mechanic. She has a golden doodle named Tucker. Her lucky number is 3.

    Class room tips:

Earn Swag tags if you get 20 you get a pick from the treasure chest

Be Kind

Follow the 3 b’s (Be respectful Be responsible Be Safe!)

Do the homework

Listen

Be on the right computer tab Mr. O'C has Go Guardian which means she can see what tab you're in.

Have Fun!!!!
- Shreeya
22/23

Dear new 5th graders,
Welcome to 5th grade. You are going to have so much fun, because it is going to be your best year at Mohr! In 5th grade you are going to do some awesome things. First of all, you are going to read 2 books as a class called Wonder and Blood on the River. You will get to choose out of 6 books to read as a book group. In addition, at the end of wonder(the book), you will go to the Vine theater in Livermore and you will be able to watch the movie. Overall I enjoyed all the books that we read.

To add on, other projects that you will get a chance to participate in "Fun Friday" (I know it sounds kid - ish) Only if you finish your homework. You will do many projects for fun Friday.

        A few tips:
Don't play games on the computer, even though they are unblocked because Mrs. O'Connor has something called go guardian and that allows her to see what you have done, basically your history. So, be careful. Second of all please be nice to your peers because if you don't, you will get into trouble.
There is one best thing... OUTDOOR ED. Except for the bathrooms everything is amazing. We went on night hikes, long hikes, we went to the lake and more. 4 days and 3 nights.
Mrs. O'Connor is so preeminent and very nice.
All in all 5th grade is amazing
- Loukya

You might attend the Wonder theater,Black hawk museum, outdoor ed and aquatic center. One of my best 5th grade memories were at outdoor ed when we did solo sit.It was calm and peaceful and I felt at peace with everything it was very nice. Another one of my favorite memories was at skate night when I finally learned how to skate.

Mrs. O'Connor is very nice and understanding and you are very lucky to have Mrs. O'Connor as this year's teacher.Mrs. O'Connor also has rules that are simple. What's special to Mrs. O'Connor is her dog tucker, her children.

Well some advice I would give you is you should try new things and Charge your computer.

Hello! :D
I'm Charlie, your tour guide to the 5th grade.
Welcome to 5th grade! Finally, you get to be at the top stage at school, you go to Outdoor Ed, and you look super cool compared to the little kids.
Being at the top of the food chain comes with responsibility, though.

First of all, homework.
Homework becomes a big thing in 5th grade as it is in middle school. Maybe, in 4th grade, if you could not finish your task the teacher would not care.
Not this time, sadly. If you don't finish your homework, you can't do the fun activities on Friday with your friends. And you will have to do homework on the WEEKEND to catch up with us. Depressing, right? So, make sure to do it daily.

Now, about computers.
Mrs. O'Connor has GoGuardian. That means they can see all the tabs you are on and has access to close them out or look at them. If you are on the wrong site, notes get sent home to your parents and you may have to deal with the principal. and please. You do not want to deal with that.
Mrs. O'Connor also has pet peeves, like if you don't listen to directions, talking over her while she's giving directions, and drinking Dr. Pepper. Watch out for these three. She also has 2 children and a dog named Tucker, and she runs races.
She doesn't bite, so there's no reason to be afraid.

Another thing is the field trips. You spend 3 days in a camp! (Outdoor ed.) It's fun. You sleep in a bunk bed with your cabinmates and a high school senior counselor, plus they have PANCAKES!!!
You can also go to the Blackhawk Museum, where there's a big elephant statue that looks cool. And lots more, like an END OF SCHOOL POOL PARTY!!!
super cool, huh? Great responsibility comes
with great perks, too.

I do not know who I'm talking to if you're short, tall, queer, or anything else, but you got this, and 5th grade is gonna be a BLAST. trust me.

also p.s for all the queer/trans/other community of students. (or anyone else.)
most of the teachers here are super supportive, and you don't need to worry. There are gender-neutral restrooms in Outdoor Ed and even there everyone is super nice. Just remember you are valid, and you are supported. Good luck. 5th grade is awesome.

XOXO,
Charlie.

Dear Incoming 5th Graders,

Here are some things that you should know about 5th grade with our fabulous Mrs. O'Connor! She is a really amazing teacher! You will be doing so many fun things this year! For example, you will read Wonder and Blood On The River, volume zoo, kazoon kites, wampum belts, going to the Pool day, Roller skating night, Black hawk Museum, and Wonder the movie, writing essays, and etc! My most favorite memories were Fun Friday and Roller skating night! (Trust me, you're going to love it!)

Like I listed before, Mrs. O'Connor is a really cool teacher! But as all teachers do... She has some rules... And as we all should, we have to follow them... First of all, no being on the wrong tab at the wrong time because Mrs. O'Connor can see all your tabs if she wants too! Also no talking! (obviously!) Don't worry, Mrs. O'Connor's top priority is to protect and teach us all!

Some advice I will give you is to... Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe!
And That will get you a good name!
~Sincerely, Saihridaysri Sonekar #25 (Hridaya)

Dear New 5th Graders,
This is your last year in Elementary, so you must enjoy every bit. Enjoy your last recesses, enjoy all the projects you do, and enjoy staying in one class. Because in middle school, you won't have all these things. Your school year will be very fun, every Friday you have *Fun Friday* which is when you do a really fun project. You have homework most days except for Friday and the weekends, but unless you are doing a huge project, it's not too much. You guys are going to learn soo much. You will learn about colonies and the American Revolution in society. Fractions, decimals, etc. in math. NF articles, grammar, speech, etc in English and so much more. There are events almost every week and each is a lot of fun. Near the end of the year, there are so many events almost one every day, like a pool party, a talent show, field day, culmination, band and strings concert, etc But not only that, you have many more through the year like skate-night, field trips and you even get to go to a movie. You also read a lot of books with the class like Wonder and Blood on the River.

You have a marble jar (luckily, it's small) and every time the class acts quiet and nice, you get 3 marbles. Once the marble jar is so full that a marble falls off, you get a party! One thing I'm recited for you to go to is outdoor ed, which is a 4-day camping trip with the other 5th graders. It's a life-changing experience. Ms O'Connor is a really nice teacher, but don't take her niceness for advantage and be loud and rude. The teacher had GoGaurdian so she can see what tab you are on and you'll get in trouble if you are playing games or watching something you are not supposed to. Also, remember to charge your computer. The tests you take are pretty easy and the year really flies by, so remember to have fun. Don't interrupt Ms O'Connor and don't talk in the middle of class.

Lastly, remember to include everyone, don't leave anyone out, behave, and you will have an amazing year. THIS IS GOING TO BE SO FUN FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Amrapali Ghosh

Dear incoming 5th graders,
I wanted to let you know that 5th grade is the best and worst grade because, you get to go on so many very fun field trips like Outdoor Ed, the Black Hawk museum, the pool party, the movie theaters, and more. It is also the worst because it is going to be your last year at Mohr which is very sad. You will be reading the book Blood on the river which is a book about the native Americans, Pocahontas and the first people in Jamestown. The best day of the week is also Friday not just because it is close to the weekend but because it is fun Friday the day you do art projects and more. My 2 favorite fun Friday activities were making gingerbread house that you can eat and are bigger than your hand but also making kites that actually fly. My 2 most special memories of 5th grade that I think you guys will also like is Outdoor Ed and making new friends.

Some thing that you should know about Mrs.O'Connor is that she has 2 children a son named Connor and a daughter named Madison or Madi(P.S she was also our counselor for Outdoor Ed I are so lucky)
Mrs.O'Connor also has a dog named Tucker and he is so cute literally. Mrs.O'Connor runs half marathons, Marathons, spartan races and more and has a lot of trophies. Her favorite number is 3 and her favorite color is scarlet and silver.

Some tips I would give you are never cheat on exams and don't hide your computer under your desk and finish unfinished homework as a matter of fact don't do anything under your desk. To add on finish all of your homework on time before Friday because you won't be able to participate in fun Friday which is an awesome activity like I told you before. Most importantly stay on the correct tabs at all times or you will get in trouble, study before exams , and pay attention when the teacher is talking. Best of all CHARGE YOUR COMPUTER!!!
               - Sincerely,
Keerthika the best 5th grader ever!

5th grade is a year to really push yourself in learning and create everlasting memories with your friends and experiencing many amazing events.

Academics- In 5th grade, academics becomes slightly more challenging and important than 4th grade. First of all, I know that many of you have parents who pressure you to excell in math to get into the advanced math class in 6th grade. Well, it's not as hard as you think to get in! All you need is a 95 percentile and above on your MAP tests and 95 percent or higher on regular math tests. (And don't worry, the majority of kids get in, so you may have a chance to be in the same math class as your friends!)

-Classroom Life: Ms. O'Connor is a really great teacher, so please be respectful and listen to her directions carefully. In class 12C, we have a classroom currency called swag tags. You will earn a swag tags every Friday, for that is the day you will be checking your homework with your elbow partner(the person sitting next to you.)If all the hw is completed, you and your partner will each earn a swag tag.

-Field Trips and Recreation: Sure, fifth grade can be extremely boring and challenging at times, but all the field trips and events would make those grueling days of studying worth it. Some of the field trips and events specifically for fifth grade include watching a movie at the Vine Theater, Skate Night, Chabot Space Museum, and of course, Outdoor Ed!

-Crucial Items to bring to Outdoor Ed:

-At least 6 pairs of socks(your socks will get extremely dirty even in a short hike)

-crocs or slippers: (the shower stalls are very dirty)

-Mosquito Repellent Stickers: (you will be going on night hikes!)

-AT LEAST TWO PAIRS OF SHOES!

Epilogue: Overall, fifth grade is a memorable year packed with many field trips, activities, and more. Your last year at Mohr will be a year that you will never forget!

                  With passion, Hedy Liu

Dear new fifth graders, I will tell you all the things you should know about fifth grade. At first you may be nervous to enter a new classroom but you will be fine. I was a new student here I came in April I was super nervous if I got a mean teacher but Mrs. O'Connor was super nice to me and still is. Make sure you turn in your homework on time and be a good listener to Mrs. O'Connor because she is super sweet to all of us. Also charge your computer the night before so you don't have to at school and just sit at your desk with your computer. This school year was the best even though math or science or maybe even other subjects may be hard always try your best. It's best to not know than not to try at all. Culmination will come up very soon for you in a blink of eye so be ready. I hope you have a great time here in fifth grade last year of elementary.

                   Sincerely,

                        Berenice Jimenez

                          May 30th 2024

Dear Future 5th graders,

Welcome to 5th Grade! 5th grade is your last year at Mohr Elementary. You've come a long way and should definitely be proud of yourselves. From experience, I can tell you that some of your best memories will be made in 5th grade. I can't express

I'd like to tell all the incoming 5th graders just how awesome 5th grade is in Mrs.O'Connor's class. Mrs. O'Connor is absolutely wonderful. If you're gonna be in her class, you should probably get to know her first. Her birthday is June 14, and her favorite colors are scarlet and silver. She has 2 kids, Madison and Connor. She also has a dog named Tucker. She loves running and attends Spartan races, half marathons, and even marathons. In class, Mrs.O'Conner is fun, but she can be extra fun if your whole class behaves. The rules are pretty simple, nothing too bad. Just be quiet when someone's talking, have a good attitude, and turn in your homework. But, if you fail to turn in homework, you might miss out on Fun Friday. Fun Friday is basically just a fun activity that Mrs.O'Connor plans at the end of each Friday. (I bet you probably already knew that.) Also, before I forget... CHARGE YOUR COMPUTER! If you don't charge your computer, it can get on Mrs.O'Connor's nerves.

Also, I know that on some days, school can get boring or hard, but I guarantee that all the field trips we go on are absolutely worth it. My personal favorite is Outdoor Ed. We got to see so many different things, and experience new experiences. Other field trips were, The Chabot Space and Science Center, watching Wonder at the Vine theater and the Blackhawk Museum. Oh, and for Outdoor Ed, DO NOT forget to bring extra pairs of clothes for you to wear.(You could get REALLY messy.)

In class, we learn a lot(obviously). Here is a list of a few things you'll study...

The American Revolution

Constellations(Astronomy)

Native Americans across the USA

(I don't want to tell you tooo much, so I'll stop there)

I pretty sure you're thinking "That's A LOT!" Well, there's more. 5th grade is year you will never forget, from the moment you stepped in to the classroom, all the way to Culmination. I hope you guys get a 5th grade as AMAZING as I did. Good Luck, and keep smiling!!

Welcome new 5th graders! People are usually very nervous to come to 5th grade because of all the work and everything. Even though 5th grade is harder than 4th Mrs O'Connor always helps you feel comfortable. Let me tell you what you can expect and enjoy in this amazing 5th-grade class.

You are going to read some wonderful books, they are Wonder then Blood on the River! Wonder is about a boy who acts the same as other boys but looks very different. After reading that book you will go to the Livermore Vine theater to watch it. Blood On the River is about an orphan who is chosen to go to Jamestown and he survives all the hardships there unlike many others.

Now the fun stuff! You will be working on the wampum belt, tetrahedral kites, mannequin art, and my favorite volume zoo.

I love the volume zoo because you get to mix math with some fun. You will be learning about volume while making some cubed animal ecosystems and then calculating the volumes.

As you enter 5th grade you must remember to pay attention and NEVER talk over Mrs O'Connor. I'm sure you will love 5th grade just as much as me and remember to enjoy your very last YEAR at Mohr, and of elementary.

Good luck- sincerely, Isha

Mrs. O' Connor has made me a wonderful person. I made a gingerbread house, I did silversmithing, word art, and many more wonderful projects. In 5th grade, we read Wonder, Blood on the River, and Along Walk to Water.

Your expectation as a 5th grader is to READ DIRECTIONS, follow the rules, and treat others the way you want to be treated.

Dear future 5th graders. In 5th grade, you do so many exciting and fun activities! Such as “Wonder” the movie, Outdoor Ed, and the Aquatic Center, there is even more!

In 5th grade, we did many things. We read many books, went on many field trips, and also learned about cool and fun things! The books we read were “Wonder,” “Blood on the River,” and “A Long Walk to Water.” Each book has a good plot and has a lot of dialogue. In science, we learned about Yellowstone and its ecosystem. We also learned about space and astronomy. We learned a lot of stuff in 5th grade.

Ms. O'Connor is a great teacher! She is so fun and lets us have class parties! Some advice is, don't play games on your Chromebook when you're supposed to be doing your work. She might not put GoGuardian on, which is a software used to see what the person is doing on the Chromebook. If she does catch you, then you will have to take a marble out. And marbles are used for if you have enough, then we can all have a class party.

In general, 5th grade is really fun and exciting. We do so many fun things and activities that I can't even count! Ms. O'Connor pushes you to your limits, but in a good way to prepare you well for middle school. I hope you will have a blast in Ms. O'Connor's 5th-grade class.

All the best,

Shiven

There are many fun things to do along with a wonderful teacher!

Since 5th grade is your last year, you should spend the year wisely. Make sure to make new friends! You might have done some field trips in the past. We also have field trips, too! All of them are amazing.

One example is... OUTDOOR ED! Outdoor ed is AMAZING. You get to go to a camp and learn more about nature with your friends! You could learn about the plants around, or the animals! You would have to pack a lot, though.

We do many projects, such as the living museum and volume art! For the living museum, we get to learn about one person from the American Revolutionary War or from the colonial times. Then we would write a monologue. We would freeze until a parent pushes your button, then BOOM! You come to life! We were the only one s who did this, though. We were also the only ones who did the Neurodiversity presentation.

5th grade is amazing. You will enjoy this. GOOD LUCK!

Sincerely, Yenah

Dear next year fifth graders. I hope you will have a great time in fifth grade. There are multiple field trips science projects and more in the jam packed schedule in Fifth Grade. One thing you have to watch out for are your grade's if you don't have good grades than you can't make it out of Fifth Grade and that is a big problem. Well really all you have to do is sit back and relax while the school year goes by. Another thing to watch out for is being good in class. Mrs. O'Conner can be strict some times. If you are a good student than you won't have to worry about it. ʘ‿ʘ

My 2 favorite memories are the Wonder field trip and Outdoor Ed.

Ms O Connor expects you to do your best work and turn it in on time. She's just preparing you for middle school.

I know people say this at least every year, but it's true. Time goes by so fast, I didn't even realise there are only 2 days left of school! 5th grade may seem impossible to overcome, but trust that you're going to enjoy every part of it. Some say that when you reach 5th grade, everything will be harder, including more homework and stricter teachers. I promise you, your final year at Mohr will be none of those stories. You'll do amazing art, entertaining projects, read fantastic books, and best of all, probably the best field trips you've ever had.

Some books you'll be reading will be Wonder, A Long Walk to the Water, and Blood on the River. You will also be going on many field trips like the Vine Theater, Outdoor Ed, Aquatic Center, and more. They are all spectacular, but my personal favorite is Outdoor Ed. There is Fun Friday every Friday. Sometimes there will be extra stuff like a Valentine's Day party or a Pie Day party. Both are fun, and I like them very much.

In fifth grade, you should always read the directions and pay attention in class. These rules may seem basic, but if you follow these simple rules, you'll ace 5th grade. Ms. O' Connor always expects you to do your best work, so try not to slack off. She sometimes gets strict, but she's just making sure you're ready for middle school.

Their is barley any homework so you don't need to worry about that at all. Also listen during twig science it may be boring but listen, because on the Caasp test if you didn't listen it's a fail. But their are some fun things Like Outdoor Ed or the Wonder movie feild trip. I would like you to remember that opportunities don't happen you create them, so don't just wait their for one create it. Also if you think 5th grade teachers are strict well their not. They keep the students vibrant throughout the year and keep us focused. Good luck new 5th graders

Hi, you've made it to the last year of elementary school! Good job. You probably have a lot of questions. Yes, Mrs.O'Connor is nice. We do still have Fun Fridays. But no, there will be no more Student Market. But there will be fun stuff to, like Cardboard Day. And yes, there will be a day where you get to wrap someone in toilet paper. I bet the thing you are most excited about is Outdoor Ed. But you will also go to the Aquatic Center!! So cool. Here's some tips to stay out of trouble: don't be whispering to your friends, 'cuz she WILL catch you. Pay attention!!! She does not like repeating herself 10 million times! And also some things to make her happy: be very nice and say your please and thank you's, and her favorite flower is sunflowers. Maybe give her something related to that. Good luck to you all, and remember that there may be more homework, more tests, no fun plushies or whatever around the classroom, but 5th grade is still the best!!

-Carolyn

Hello, 5th grade Sherlock's. 5th grade is the final grade of the year of Elementary School. So congrats on making it and reaching to the end of the schools. Yes, there will be more homework than your previous teachers, but that dosen't always mean that there wouldn't be any thing fun to do. You get to have pie, Ice cream, Make Tin Mans, Art will be everywhere around the room!!!! There will also be a LOT of TESTS, but don't worry, once you get it, you'll be able to be smart, and can be able to solve them. Also, you will be going on more field trips like going to the movies to watch wonder, or go to the aquatic center, Outdoor Ed (U could have cereal everyday BTW) and all. You could be able to do this, new 5th graders, hope you have the great time of day

Yes, there will be more homework, the assignments will be harder, but it will also be the most fun year. I know that everyone says that, but seriously, it is.

The good news is that you will do many projects like the volume art project, cardboard day, and more. You will also read many books like Wonder and Blood on the River. The field trips will be even more fun, but they are mostly right before winter or Summer break. When you finish the Wonder book, you get to go see the movie, and at the end of the year, you go camping with your friends! How exciting!

The bad news is that you will do quite a bit of essays and there is more homework, but don't worry, they shouldn't be THAT big of a problem, if you listen to the lessons. Besides, Mrs. O'Connor is a great teacher, and is patient, but she does have rules. I guess that it kinda makes up for the homework.

I think that's enough, and have fun in 5th grade!

-Haocheng

Dear New 5th grader, welcome to fifth grade! You made it to your last year in Mohr! Stay strong and never give up! Get ready for the year. You have one more year left! (Hooray :D)

Make friends and never give up! When you're reading this, just know to make a lot of friends, even ones from fourth grade!

It might seem hard, but you will do lots of fun projects. Your experiences will seem new for you. Here, it is WAY more different. Here, there is a lot more homework, projects, and we even have Fun Fridays! Each week, if you finish your homework, you will get a swag tag and be able to participate in Fun Friday. On Fun Friday, you make new projects which Mrs. O'Connor puts up on the walls or hangs. Some projects are Bloom Balls, Kites, Neurodiversity Reports, and I Am Poems. Also, we have tons of FUN field trips from the Wonder field trip to the Aquatic center field trip.

Mrs. O'Connor is a great teacher. However, if she tells you to stop talking, you should stop. When she's not in the room, don't break the silence. Instead of talking uncontrollably, maybe read or even whisper. It may be hard, but it's ok if you don't. Fifth graders make mistakes too :). Also, we have a fish tank to fill up! Every time you do hard work or are silent when she comes in, she gives a fish. Fill up the bowl and a prize! Mrs. O'Connor loves chocolates like Reese's peanut butter cups, so you should give her that if it's Valentine's day or teacher's appreciation week.

Just have fun and have a great year. Don't change yourself for others. If you want to tell others something or just want to do something, do it! No one will judge you, if somebody does, why do you care about their expectations? Don't get into trouble and finish your work on time. If you have classes, it's understandable. Appreciate this year. It's your last year in Mohr. Have a great year and be wonderful eagles! I'm rooting for you!

-Julienne V 25/26

Hi future fifth graders in Mrs.O'Connor's class, I hope you all are doing well, let me guess what you all are so excited about. Maybe, it's Outdoor Ed, or it's the exciting 5th grade pool day. Well no matter what it is, you are going to have so much fun.

Here is a quick summary of field trips and fun things you might go to this year or do this year. The Wonder movie field trip (we go to a movie theater and get popcorn), the pool day at the end of the year, cardboard day (we make stuff out of cardboard and it's the besttttt), all the class parties (on valentine's day you get ice cream sundaes), or maybe all the fun fridays.

You might be wondering, what are we doing for studies in 5th grade? Well you guys get to read good books like Wonder, Blood on the River, and A long walk to water. We also have book clubs but, Mrs. O'Connor picks which book we read for the book clubs. We also do some great science in class, math, writing, and history (all about the wars like the American Revolutionary), and tons of speeches.

Now you might wanna know a bit about Mrs.O'Connor from the students perspective. NEVER EVER INTERRUPT HER! Ok maybe that was a bit extreme but just don't interrupt her, she also gets mad repeating a direction 10 million times! So just listen the first time. But, Mrs.O'Connor is one of my favorite teachers and she teaches really really well.

Lastly, I just wanna wish you guys a great last year of elementary and you guys have to trust that it's really fun, so good luck and wish us good luck for middle school. You guys are gonna be having so much fun.

I am glad to say that fifth grade is the best year for me at Mohr Elementary School. We did so much fun stuff over the year, and you will too!

For starters, we read an amazing book called "Wonder " and watched a movie based on it, too. We also made a tin foil man and made it do a pose. For going fast, we did word art, I am poem, colonial soup smithing, making a picture out of tin foil, winter movie, kites, math zoo, cardboard day, and we are going to do Outdoor Ed and pool party.

Dear 5th graders-

1st I'd like to say, if anyone who's been in 5th grade said its torture there's some involved... but there's also some really cool stuff. I'm sure someone's told you about Outdoor Ed, that big fun camping trip? It's a lot more fun than it sounds you get to see amazing animals and see beautiful sights. People say 5th grade sucks and you get harder homework and no spare time, its true you get harder homework and a truckload of slidedecks but most of those stories are exaggerated. You will read fantastic books, maybe get into other books like, Artimus Foule, maybe even manga like My Hero Acadamemia. In 5th grade I HIGHLY encourage you to read lots more books and more advanced ones, sticking to the same seiries like Wings of fire is boring.

In 5th grade always pay attention, read the board, and try to limit doodling in your spiral notebook and yes I know very well its much harder than it sounds. If you follow these rules you'll do well in 5th grade. Mrs O'connor is an okay teacher, but she always expects the best from you so always turn in your work in time, she can be a really strict sometimes and say some things that are a bit harsh but know that your teachers are trying their best to prepare you middle school. Good luck 5th grader!

You finally made it to 5th grade. Congratulations on making it so far. You are finally going to middle school, a very different school from elementary. There will be different rules for different classes instead of having one teacher, and middle school is one milestone accomplished, so have a great time in 5th grade.

For all these years, since K-4, you have taken school for granted, and everyone has, so I am not pointing anyone out. But now, since we are in 5th grade, you need to value the most important parts: enjoy your last Ice Cream Social, Bike Rodeo, Walk and Roll, Field Day, and Spring Carnival. Trust me, you will appreciate it later. You will be reading a couple of books this year: Wonder, Blood on the River, and a wonderful book our PTA gifted us, A Long Walk to Water. Some activities you will be doing are the Volume Zoo, Bloom Ball, and Kite. The field trips are not too many, but they are certainly splendid. We have the Wonder Movie field trip, Outdoor Ed and Pool Day and I think I know which one you are most excited for.

     Ms. O'Connor is really chill.
Fifth Grade: The Best Year Yet!

Fifth grade is your last year at Mohr, and it’s actually really fun, even though the work gets harder. You’ll read awesome books like Wonder, A Long Walk to Water, and Blood on the River, and after Wonder, you even get to go to the movie theater and watch the movie with popcorn and your friends. There are lots of cool projects too, like volume art, Bloom Balls, Neurodiversity presentations, kites, and Fun Friday projects that get hung up all around the room,m so it looks really colorful. We also have fun field trips like the Aquatic Center and, of course, the end‑of‑year pool party.

But the best part of 5th grade is Outdoor Ed. You get to go camping with your friends for a few days instead of going to regular school. You stay in cabins, hike on real trails, and learn about nature from naturalists who actually live there. At night, you can look up and see so many stars, and during the day, you might see deer, banana slugs, or other cool animals. You eat meals in a dining hall, play games, sing silly songs, and have campfire time. It sounds a little scary at first, but once you get there, it’s really fun, and it ends up being one of the best memories of the whole year.

In Mrs. O’Connor’s class, you really have to read the directions, listen to them the first time, and turn your work in on time, because she gets annoyed when she has to repeat herself a million times. Try not to talk while she’s teaching, even if your friends are tempting you. She can be strict and sometimes say things that sound harsh, but she’s just trying to get you ready for middle school and wants you to do your best work. Some fun facts: she loves chocolate, especially Reese’s peanut butter cups, does not like Dr Pepper, and talks about her dog, Tucker, a lot because she loves him so much.

My advice for having an awesome 5th-grade year is to stay organized, ask for help when you’re confused, and still make time for fun. Don’t freak out if an assignment or project looks hard at first—once you start, it usually isn’t as bad as it seems and can actually be pretty fun. Be nice to your classmates, make new friends, and try to enjoy the little things like class parties, Fun Fridays, and funny moments with your table group. Most of all, appreciate Outdoor Ed and all the field trips, because this is your last year at Mohr. Remember, there is no elevator to success; you have to take the stairs. Work hard, have fun, and know that you’ve totally got this.

Sincerely, an experienced 5th Grader named Kabir Momin

Dear new 5th graders,

There are many many things challenging and fun in 5th grade. You might get like handholds of homework but you will need to handle it all. After all of that hardwork you will be having the most fun at the end of the year you're gonna have a swimming party and even go to Outdoor Ed which is like the funnest of them all you will be in groups in a cabin and you might even see mountain lions barn owls and more but one thing you will definitely see is a BANANA SLUG. They are super slimy but do not touch it or else it might die and you might get poisoned also watch out for ticks and poison oak.

I hope that you will have the most of fun in our classroom. Oh yeah Mrs. O'Connor is like one of the best teachers her rules are 1st waning 2nd warning 3rd warning of 4th warning if you get the 4th warning oh man your cooked. which is really really bad. Well I wish you the most of luck!!

-Ethan Rhee

Dear Future 5th Grader,

You did it, you reached the beginning of 5th grade. You are now one of the oldest people in our school. This will most likely be your favorite year. You will read so many amazing books like Wonder and A Long Walk To Water. I think my most favorite part of 5th grade is the field trips. We do not have the most amount of field trips but we sure had the most memorable ones. Especially Out Door Ed, during my time there we had the funnest time.

So, now we are going to discuss Mrs. O´Connor. She might be a little strict but overall I think that she is the best teacher that you could get for 5th grade, in my opinion. She does not give us too much homework. Mrs. O´Connor thinks that turning in homework is important, but her ultimate thing that is important is following directions. She claims that 5th Grade is all about following directions.

Hopefully, you have an amazing time during your last year at Mohr. Good Luck!

                                               - Tasha

Dear new 5th graders,

Wow! You finally made it to 5th grade! No pressure, but you will need to know a few things. It is really similar to 4th grade except a bit better. Fine. A lot better. You might have heard about a camping trip. It is sooooo fun. You’ll just have to wait to see the amazing views and activities there. Anyways, you’ll also get to read books like Wonder, Blood On The River, and Long Walk To Water. Also, when you finish all your homework by the end of the week, you get a Swag Tag. If you have at least 10, you can turn it in for a prize. At the end of the week on Friday, we have a thing called Fun Friday where we do activities. You'll get to experience it soon too!

Honestly, Ms. O’Connor isn’t as strict as you think. She’s one of my favorite teachers and she not only helps us all as a class, but she helps us individually, figuring out every problem. She helps us understand the question and and answers, and she gives us courage to keep going throughout the school year. Ms. O’Connor normally gets the most strict when we keep talking and don’t follow her directions a lot. Also, Ms. O’Connor LOVES Reese’s chocolate so giving her that on Valentine’s day will probably make her happy.

As long as you read directions, follow instructions, and charge your computer, I think most people can survive 5th grade. Don’t be too stressed about the homework because everyone experiences it and if you don’t bring it on time, Ms. O’Connor will understand...most of the time. It’ll go by so fast, you’ll want to go back to experience it again. You’ll love 5th grade, and soon before you know it, you’ll be in middle school! Good Luck!

From,

Soeun

25/26
