Diversity increases the creativity of teams (Małgorzata, Simone, & Paul, 2019) . Members of cross-cultural teams have a broader perspective than monocultural teams. However, the different native languages of cross-cultural members, as well as differences in approach to things, can create a series of problems. Our motivation is to describe a cross-cultural work scenario that is very close to our study and work and to analyse the problems encountered and the reasons for them. This can help us in the future cross-cultural work environment. "Text" tells the story of Emily, who is from Chicago and goes to work in Paris, France. When she started her new job in a foreign country, she encountered pressure from her boss, rejection from her colleagues and misfits at work. We describe the problems in cross-cultural communication by analysing four aspects of the text: cultural differences, CoP scenario understanding, rapport management, and position. And further, explain their causes.

Therefore, they both believe they have a high social order/power in the company's network, so they disagree and contradict each other in the process of negotiating their position. The bosses, as the gatekeepers in this organisation, are trying to keep Emily out because they position Emily as an outsider who doesn’t belong to their community.
