Ray Bradbury was an American fantasy and horror author who rejected being categorized as a science fiction author, claiming that his work was based on the fantastical and unreal. His best known novel is Fahrenheit 451, a dystopian study of future American society in which critical thought is outlawed. He is also remembered for several other popular works, including The Martian Chronicles and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Bradbury won the Pulitzer in 2007, and is one of the most celebrated authors of the 21st century.
He published his first short story in a fan magazine in 1938, the same year he graduated from high school. The next year, he published four issues of his own fan magazine, Futuria Fantasia.

Ray Bradbury didn't go to college.
Ray Bradbury was 25 years old before he ever asked a girl out.

Bradbury’s family moved to Los Angeles in 1934. In 1937 Bradbury joined the Los Angeles Science Fiction League. Bradbury published his first short story, “Hollerbochen’s Dilemma” (1938). In 1939 Bradbury traveled to the first World Science Fiction convention, where he met many of the genre’s editors. He made his first sale to a professional science fiction magazine in 1941, when his short story “Pendulum” was published in Super Science Stories. Many of Bradbury’s earliest stories, with their elements of fantasy and horror, were published in Weird Tales. Most of these stories were collected in his first book of short stories, Dark Carnival (1947). Bradbury’s style, with its rich use of metaphors and similes, stood out from the more utilitarian work that dominated pulp magazine writing.

Ray Bradbury graduated from high school in 1938, and made a living as a newsboy until 1942. He began writing as a child, but published his first story in 1938, in a hobbyist magazine.
In 1951 he published one of his largest books, The Illustrated Man, made up of various stories of a fantastic nature, and two years later another of the most representative, Fahrenheit 451 (title that alludes to the temperature at which books begin to burn).
One of his most representative works was written in just 1 week. Specifically, it took Bradbury nine days to write Fahrenheit 451, and he did it in the basement of the UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) library on a rented typewriter. The title of his novel, by the way, comes from the temperature at which paper burns without being exposed to flame.
1. He helped develop the storyline for Epcot’s Spaceship Earth attraction at Walt Disney World.
2. By the time he was 12 years old, Bradbury was writing four hours a day.
3. His greatest passion wasn’t writing — it was magic
4. It cost him $9.80 to print Fahrenheit 451 at the library.
5. He was strongly influenced by the women in his life.
6. He never got his driver’s license.
7. His poor vision led to his rejection from the military during The Second World War.
8. Despite the heavy emphasis on technology and the future in his works, Bradbury was unsure of the value of the Internet to modern society.
9. This skepticism led to his resistance to having his work converted to e-book format.
