One of the main reasons I don't consider The Giver's society to be Utopian is because one of the requirements for a Utopian society is that it's better then what we have now. In some ways it is better but in other ways it isn't. I agree with Ethan and would like to add that, The Giver is not really a utopian society. I say this because in the giver everyone must be the same. The giver society sees this as equality however, this society still has it flaws. This society has way more flaws then it really shows on the outside. Although it might seem like this an equal society-or a society that’s as no flaws, the reality of this society is just pushing everyone away from each other so your set up for the future . For instance in their society Jonas was chosen to be a certain someone anyways he already has things that are bothering him and he is made to face them on his own and not to mention he still a kid 🧒. The society in The Giver is messed up, rigged and it is set to make it seem as if the government is doing the right thing but are they really. Adding on to what Calys said Jonas's parents denied the question Jonas asked if they loved him. They hesitated at first and then they said that the use of the word is inappropriate. The way families in this society is set up is kind of like adoption. When adopted you either get a foster family who abuses you and takes advantage of you or a family that cares for you as if you are their own. However if they do care for you as their own the mother does not have a choose other than to give up their child. That family will love them as their own but no one can ever replace the love that their mother had for them. The government is also corrupt because when twins are born the twin that weighs more is kept however the other twin is released into elsewhere. But what exactly is elsewhere. The people in this society are thought to believe that elsewhere is a great place but they fail to realize that they actually don't know what elsewhere is.
