In World War 1 the US didn't even have armor, we couldn't afford it all we had was clothing/uniform. The British and the US actually made a deal that they would ship us their helmets. Some of the times the Soldiers even had to wear previously used uniforms that had bullet holes, rips, etc in them. The British and the Germans were the first to have body armor and bullet proof armor. They were very heavy like they are today, they weighed about 40 pounds. These vest were very stiff too and hard to move in and not comfortable. The vest do stop a bullet but your body is still stopping the force of a bullet and its like getting punched in the gut and having the wind taken out of you. If the gun is big enough and the vest is strong enough to hold you could also break a rib or have internal bleeding still better then being shot.

The armour now a days differs from war to war, like in afghanistan we have very light colored camouflage. Nowadays the US as armor plates almost everywhere on the uniform; neck, shoulders, front, abdomen, back, lower back, sides, and part of our legs.

The video is kind of lengthy but the first 2 1/2 minutes are good and then starting at 8 minutes talks about the most recent uniforms, the reason why the video only goes to 2015 is because there is no change in uniforms from 2015 to 2016 and uniforms are now allowed to be shown for 2017.

The future of body armour and uniforms is hard to talk about for the future because the US doesn't want to give up information. If we were to just show what we were going to where for war other countries would know how to prepare and what to look for. There is an armor though that is going to be used in the future that can stop a .40 caliber or .50 caliber bullet and only have minor damage to it and the person. The armour called Spartan armour the armour is more lightweight and covers more of the body, the helmet that goes with this uniform is kind of like a helmet from a trooper from star wars. Also made to be completely bulletproof. Some people though are saying that in the future the army uniform might just be an average day uniform but its the person wearing it. Predictions for a world war 3 is that it would be all technical and on computers and trying to hack other countries and ruin there government.

I never thought about it but it surprised me when i read/heard that the US didn't have armor for ww1 and had to use helmets from the british. It also surprised me that the US had hidden their future and present uniforms so it was hard to find some of the information. Lastly it was cool to me how the future uniforms look like something from a video game.
