Dracula is clearly a vampire but to John he is still a scary mystery. We know this because he has pointed out how he and his 'friends' (the three girls who suck blood') Also, the citizens of Transylvania gave John garlic and a crucifix to guard against Dracula. They also tried to dely him from his journey to his house clearly pointing out that something was wrong. Dracula is described as wearing a long cape and pointy K-9 teath with pale skin. (A pretty accurate description of a vampire).
