Finding existing and emergent research can be overwhelming- especially if we have done a good job exposing researchers to the many resources that are out there. In addition to supporting good search practices, we need to make sure researchers are equipped to manage the information that they find. This image can represent the jungle of literature that researchers have to cut through to find what’s relevant to them. The vines also remind me of the tangents and new directions that can tempt researchers.

This is similar to what others have said: a process with an end point or goal, but with the potential to branch off or take the scenic route. I also like the image of the forest (or 'tangle of literature') researchers have to make their way through. As somebody whose background is as a medievalist and who now works with humanities researchers I have always enjoyed this quote by Roberta Frank of Yale University: '"When the philologists repair to their wilderness of old texts, they end up getting gloriously lost, diverted by unexpected echoes and detours, crossroads of meaning and a confusion of learned dwarfs."

Research data management is very much on the agenda and creating a RDM plan is something that is now required by my University (University of Birmingham) and some funders are also asking for this. It's a process that helps the researcher think about the data they are collecting and to give serious thought about how it should be curated.
