It is caused by bacteria infection with yersina pesties.
It is carried by fleas and rodents.
The bubonic plague kills within four days.
Pneumatic  plague: is caused the same bacteria as bubonic plague and is characterised by sneezes and coughs,as the bacteria become airborne. Alessandro Manzoni wrote about the plague in his book The Betrothead (1827).
He didn’t live in the time of plague, so, he his based descriptions on books and documents such Giuseppe Ripamonti’s (was a librarian and curator who worked in his library) “De peste quae fuit”.
Also Bocaccio wrote about the Blach Death in Florence.

We can see many symbols how the  connection of the martyr shot with arrows with the plague with the Greco-Roman myth, Apollo, the archer God and we can see shields of the districts of Milan indeed there are many believes and superstitions about this theme and then this believes that the Devil or the witches caused the plague.

In Milan, in 1630, Guglielmo Piazza was accused of spreading the plague with a unguent. He said that the barber Mora gave to him the unguent. 
The two man were imprisoned and tortured and executed.
