1. Do you think social experiments like this one should be carried out in secondary schools?
Yes, as it changes people’s perspective of the young and old generation and bridges the generation gap between them, creating a homier society. Both parties can also benefit from this friendship, such as being more fit for the elderly, and boosting self esteem for the student.

2. What can you do as an individual to bring about an inclusive community in your neighbourhood?
We can be nice to everyone and show our care through our interaction between the neighbours and different people in our community. We can smile and greet our neighbours when we see them, building friendships and relationships.

3. What prevents people from letting others know about their disabled family members?

People perhaps feel shame, fear or helplessness towards their disabled family members. They do not want their family members to be in the public’s sight.

4. What attitude do the majority of the people have towards the disabled in Singapore?

There is a segregation between most Singaporeans and the disabled, and a significant amount of Singaporeans feel unconfortable interacting with the disabled. There is a exclusive behaviour towards the disabled.

5. What can the government do to help change the perception of people towards the disabled?

Public education can be done by the government to raise awareness of disability issues, as most Singaporeans are not confortable interacting with them. Singaporeans need to be educated about the difficulties the disabled goes through and what can be done for a more inclusive society. Additionally, the government can create more opportunities to the disabled, for the disabled to contribute more to society and change the mindsets of the people.

6. Besides the government, what can individuals do to build a more inclusive society?

Individuals can make a point to interact and facilitate meaningful conversations between those with and without disabilities. This would allow individuals to change their mindset on the disabled and correct misconceptions on this community. Individuals should try not to discriminate and instead encourage this community for a more inclusive society. One should try to respect each other as equals regardless of differences and learn to understand different aspects of the disabled.

the indian lady thought that the chinese were arrogant from her first interaction with that racial group. the chinese family, especially the young boy, did not know much about indian culture and asked her slightly insensitive questions (the red dot on her forehead). He talked about how he used to not like indians, making the indian lady feel uncomfortable.

Non- Physical Environment

Some of the elderly in Silver Circle are of a different race and there is a language barrier when speaking to them. Some of them only know English while the others just know Chinese or their own dialect.
