We do treat these people as equals because they are our equals, even though we don't always see eye to eye we still tolerate each other because of MLK Jr.'s famous "dream".

Sadly I do not think we have lived up to his speech up to 2017. I say this because some people want their race or what not to be equal but some of those people don't deserve equality or don't know the meaning of it. Equality is to where everyone is helping and serving one another no matter race, gender, shape, anything. But these people who "believe" they are enforcing equality don't help or serve those they are trying to persuade.
