Students with hearing impairments often have difficulty detecting and understanding speech at a conversational level. They have difficulty listening to directions and have a hard time orally expressing themselves as well. These students have trouble participating in class so they will have reduced participation. Often times students with low hearing will have delayed social skill and language along with speech difficulties. Many times this student is often a follower and not a leader. Also, students may be frustrated if their needs are not met, which leads to behavioral issues. (Ferris)

Teachers need to use clear and concise language in order for low hearing students to understand them. Another reason this is important is because many students lip read, so teacher needs to speak very clearly. Another strategy teachers could use when accommodating for students with low hearing is to use sign language. Teachers could incorporate certain hand signals in their classroom that represent certain things. (Ferris)
