Kazakh hospitality is more than kindness — it’s a deep-rooted cultural value. Guests are always treated with great respect: the best food is served, the most comfortable seat is given, and sometimes even the host’s own bed is offered. Refusing can seem impolite, so just enjoy the warm welcome!

Punctuality isn’t always a priority here. Social events, family gatherings, and even meetings often start a bit late, and people are usually relaxed about it. Time feels more flexible, so it’s best to stay patient and go with the flow — things will happen when they happen.

It is quite common for guests to come an hour or even two hours after the official starting time. It’s not considered rude — it’s just part of the tradition.

In Almaty, be prepared for exceptionally warm greetings. Locals frequently greet each other with hearty handshakes and sometimes even friendly hugs. This genuinely warm manner of welcoming will immediately make you feel at home.

And in my country, people are very hospitable. It is a part of our culture. When they invite guests, they usually cook meat and prepare a big table with beshbarmak.

Respect for elders is a part of our culture. People speak using “siz” (you), say hello, and ask about health. Usually, the younger person says hello first.
