One motifs that I find in the story is Poverty because she lives in a trailer part. Also her parents don't like doctors because they are expensive and can't afford the doctor bills. This became so bad the dad took her from hospital without the doctors approval

"In my mind, Dad was perfect, although he did have what Mom called a bit of a drinking situation." (p.g.23) This quote means a lot because It shows her and her fathers relationship and how the dad might not be the best dad but in her eyes he can do no wrong.

One feeling/emotion that this book evokes for me is sadness or a feeling of like feeling bad for Jeannette. When she got hurt by the fire and her dad took her out the hospital after few days because he didn't think they were helping them.

A recurring pattern that I can find is the parents being bad parents and there are many times in the story that this is shown like the fire and hospital problem. Also when she fell out the door.

I believe the mood or tone that the author is trying to show is a mixture of happiness and like scared and a few others. I don't think that there is really one tone that it stays under. It kinda of goes betwen a few moods so like mood swings kinda
