(1) The American Gothic painting by Grant Wood was done in 1930. It originated as a painting of a house that held many gothic characteristics but eventually became a portrait of the people the artist envisioned to live in such a house. Much like A Christmas Carol, the renown painting contains numerous examples of gothicism. The dark cloudy skies in the picture is also found in Charles Dickens piece of gothic literature. Any observer can see that the house in the painting appears dark . the blinds are closed to avoid any outside light from peaking through. This is much like how Scrooge went about closing himself off from the outside world as well. His home stayed dark and gloomy, much like the house in The American Gothic.

(2) The Chartres Cathedral is a renown Gothic Catholic cathedral of the Latin Church located in Chartres, France. The church is quite similar to how Ebenezer Scrooge's home was described in the book. Partly built starting in 1145, and then reconstructed over a 26-year period after the fire of 1194, Chartres Cathedral marks the high point of French Gothic art. That church, much like Scrooge's home, gives off the dark and creepy castle feeling. Characteristics like the high and peaked roof and the tall dark doors are similar to the appearance of Scrooge's mansion.

(3) "Casket with Scenes of Romances" is a French Gothic ivory casket made in Paris between 1330 and 1350, and now in the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, Maryland. The casket is carved with gothic pictures and scenes from famous gothic literature that represents the ideals of love and heroism. These symbols shadow the reoccurring themes of A Christmas Carol (love and heroism found at the conclusion of the book when Scrooge learns a lesson of love and Christmas spirit.)

I found that the connection between these two pieces was the greatest. Both principal characters were given a foul heart in in the beginning of the movie. While both movies continue, their hearts are turned for better, and they are overcome with joy. Moreover, the characters, Scrooge and Grinch, are attempting at trying to remove Christmas from their lives. They were both blind to the good that came from the holiday.

This is a 2009 romantic comedy film. The plot is based on a Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The three ghost in the movie show similar appearances from points in the book. Scrooge in a Christmas Carol thinks Christmas brings bad memories from his childhood because he was left alone at school during Christmas when his mother died. His father left him at the bordering school instead of bringing him home like all the other kids. In the movie Conner the main actor delivers a speech at his best friends wedding saying love isn’t real. The three ghost in movie lead him through his romantic past, present, and future just as well as the three ghost do in a Christmas Carol with Scrooge.

Modern Film: Mickey's Christmas Carol (Alexa Bekemeier)

Mickey's Christmas Carol is a 1983 animated movie by Walt Disney. The cartoon is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, starring Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge. In the movie, Scrooge McDuck declines his nephew Fred's invitation to Christmas dinner, then he brushes off two gentlemen fundraising aid for the poor. In the book, Fred tries to convince his uncle Scrooge to have Christmas dinner with him and his wife. Scrooge, of course, refuses the offer. Scrooge McDuck is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past who throws a Christmas party where the young Scrooge meets a young woman named Isabelle, in which he falls in love with her. The Ghost shows Scrooge McDuck how Isabelle left him when he chose his wealth over her. In the book, Scrooge and Bella met when they were both poor. She tells Scrooge that he has changed and that all he cares about is money. Bella is still poor, but Scrooge is building up his business and trying to gain as much wealth as he can. This is the turning point in Scrooge’s life because we see the moment where he literally chooses money over love. Then, the Spirit takes Scrooge to Belle’s home years later, where she is still poor, but happily married and with children.

In this popular children's book, the main character is focused on his hate for green eggs and ham. As the story progresses, he eats the dish and realizes that he enjoys it. In this way it is similar to A Christmas Carol, because both protagonists share a change of heart.

The the movie "Polar Express'' and the ''Christmas carol'' have similar contributes. In the movie a kid names Billy and some more kids live in a poor town and dont have a lot of money. They dont get a lot of things for Christmas and there is a train that gets kids to go and fall in love with Christmas again. And the reason billy does not love Christmas anymore is because hes not getting a lot and his life sucks. Same in the Christmas carol a man named scrooge hates Christmas because its not fun anymore and the town is very poor. But some people get him to believe in Christmas and now he is in love!
