I know that transition assessment should be customized for each student. Teachers in BPS have access to a Schoology site which provides access to both free and BPS purchased transition assessments and resources. This site also provides opportunities for staff to ask questions about transition assessment and share resources. This opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and share resources is an effective way to share knowledge. BPS staff that would like access to this resource should email esandelin@bostonpublicschools.org for access.

I would like to learn more about strategies to build

staff capacity across the district to better understand

transition and transition assessment. I feel that we can

decrease opportunity gaps if we build staff capacity to select

and use age appropriate transition assessment and provide

quality transition services. Please see the link to the

Action Planning for Building Staff Capacity

As an administrator at the district level I understand the need for developing a professional development plan that can be customized to meet the needs of a wide range of learners. The development of an effective model for providing professional development is as important as the content being provided. Attached is the professional development model that we are going to be using to build staff capacity to better understand transition and transition assessment. We are working closely with the Institute of Community Inclusion to develop modules that will be customized for BPS based on a needs assessment conducted earlier this year. The modules will include content that can be customized at the school level in content teams with links for digging deeper into topics of interest. A pre and post assessment will be done for each module an the transition team will work closely wit schools to provide support to embed the content across the curriculum.
