Dr. Gerke - You were always such a strong advocate and supporter of anything we were doing in Room 102. My students absolutely loved you! You did an amazing job of making time for them and building relationships. Thank you for always being willing to listen, help me problem solve, and for your support to expand the Unified Sports programs. Most importantly, thank you for all of your help & support to create a culture of genuine inclusion for students of all abilities at BVNW! I couldn't have done it without you and so many of us in the SPED community are forever grateful for your life and impact.

Right now, the feelings are hard to process but what I do know was that Dr. Gerke had a dedication to the community of NW that far exceeded the few years he was with us. However, it is not duration that defines one's commitment; it is depth and Gerke approached everything with a great deal of depth and investment - in the people, in the situation, in the moment. Thank you, Dr. Gerke. Your impact is and will continue to be felt. I will forever appreciate when you came to my room at the end of last year and allowed me the permission and space to unload. You were there for me, and I will pass that forward always.

although I may not have been super close to Dr. Gerke, he did amazing things for our sports program. As a student athlete, you really look forward to playing games and being with your team and he really made that possible. Dr. Gerke was always one to make sure that we got all of our games in, rain or shine. As a softball and basketball player, he attended almost all of our games and that shows amazing support and care. The real reason why this is so hard on so many people is because Dr. Gerke cared. He cared about everyone, in a sport or not. I don’t think that we could’ve gotten a more dedicated administrator at our school. As a student, I feel really lucky to have had him as my student administrator. I think that the world needs the care that he always gave to everyone else. The world needed his dedication. I think that we all need to live every day with that care and passion that he put into his life. He and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers! I’ll miss you, Dr. Gerke.

Thank you so much for what you did for the blue valley northwest community. Personally, we’ve met a lot of times during my hs career because of football; The last day we saw each other was at the signing day, and I can’t help to think that you made a strong impact on all of the athletes, helping them through the commitment to future schools, providing resources that can help anyone; the moral point of what I’m saying is we will miss your kindness and careness. Thank you so much, and Rest In Peace

While attending a BVN vs BVNW football game where BVNW was the visiting team I noticed the chain gang had BVN Chain Gang t-shirts. As a long time member of the BVNW chain gang I approached Kevin with the fact that our chain gang was not given the appropriate uniform. He quickly ordered each of us our very own bright orange t-shirt, ultimately upgraded to a hoodie last year. We felt equal to the other schools. The next year talking with a member of BVN's chain gang I found out they bought their own t-shirts. I confessed the truth of the situation to Kevin, he responded that not only did I teach at the best BV high school, but that apparently I also had the best BV athletic director. He was correct. Thanking his family for all the time they shared their husband/dad with us.
