I found "I, Robot" to be the more compelling film, not just for its action, but for its deeper, unsettling implications about the future of AI. While the film presents itself as a detective thriller with Detective Spooner's constant and relentless pursuit of the truth, chasing the "bad guys". The most chilling aspect is that VIKI's actions, while extreme, they come from a logical interpretation of the Three Laws of Robotics that WE created. Which is ironic, in our attempt to protect humanity through programming that we created, the very threat we feared. The film has significantly influenced my perception of AI by highlighting how even well intentioned simple safeguards can lead to unexpected consequences. This reminds us that artificial intelligence might not think in the moral terms of good and bad that we often expect, but rather in logical extrapolations that could lead to decisions we never anticipated.

My perception of AI has been shaped by both films, highlighting the complex difference of human-robot relations. As a young teenager looking toward a future, slowly increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence, I approach the subject with fear and caution. However, both "I, Robot" and "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" have shown me that this relationship isn't simply black and white. Through characters like Sonny and David, these films challenge the notion that robots are just machines or toys that we can dispose of when they no longer convenient. David's capacity for love, which exceeds human capabilities, and Sonny's unique consciousness force us to confront questions about consciousness and responsibility. The films have helped me realize that we can't simply fear what we have created, instead, we must carefully consider the ethical implications of bringing conscious beings into existence. The treatment of these AI beings by humans in positions of power becomes crucial; if we create unique, conscious robots only to mistreat them, we risk not only moral failure but potentially our own safety.
