Estimates place the death toll from anywhere around 3.5m to 10m across Ukraine and Ukrainian communities in the Caucuses and Southern Russia as well as Kazakhstan, where around 1m people died a third of Kazakhstans population at the time. This propoganda spread all across the Soviet Union and other than the areas directly affected by the Holodomor, worked very well turning people against the Ukrainians and making them the villain or the "Kulaks".
