(Myth) Poseidon's Rivalry With Athena

Both Athena and Poseidon wanted to be the patron god/goddess to Athens, so Zeus made them compete against each other by providing a gift to Cecrops (the first king of Athens) and to the Athenians. Whoever's gift was more useful to the city would be chosen as the winner. Poseidon, using his trident, created a source of water. However, it was salty sea water and the Athenians didn't find it useful. (Others say Poseidon gifted a horse) On the other hand, Athena, offered an olive tree which was recognized to be able to serve them multiple uses. The city voted for her in favor and named the city Athens after her. Poseidon wasn't happy with the results of the contest and flooded the city. (Other sources say he brought a drought upon the city?)
