         <description><![CDATA[<div>Perfectionism is shown when an individual seeks for a perfect performance rather than just winning. They will tend to set very high standards and expect other people to live up to those standards. They often have trait anxiety and they often set themselves unrealistic targets(BTEC National Sport&amp;Exercise Science, 2016).<br>Dysfunctional perfectionism is negative in nature and a dysfunctional perfectionist will be concerned about the mistakes they make, parental expectations and parental criticism (Anshel and Sutarso, 2010). They will experience and be motivated by a fear of failure and the fear of experiencing shame and embarrassment (Vallance, Dunn and Dunn, 2006).<br>Functional perfectionism is positive in nature and a functional perfectionist will set high personal standards, desire organisation in their life, be persistent in working towards their goals and strive for a perfect performance. They will show lower levels of state anxiety and higher levels of self-confidence (Stoeber et al., 2007).<br>An example of a perfectionist is Victoria Pendleton, she said herself that she is a "self-critical perfectionist", showing that she is a dysfunctional perfectionist. When she lost at the Olympics she beat herself up even though you could see she was dealing with major personal problems and that she tried her best in the velodrome, but even with everyone telling her it okay and that she tried her hardest, she still dwelled on losing. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>
