For days he goes without food and water until he finds a survival locker containing food, water, a notepad and pencil, and a survival booklet. Pi had been a vegetarian his whole life, and while he is on the boat, he learns how to fish, and eats fish and sea turtles in order to survive. He was definitely out of his confort zone as he had to do everything he could to stay alive, which included eating meat which was against one of his religions. Pi had to undergo a huge habitat change as he had never experienced such drastic conditions.

     Then he lands on a beach in Mexico and is rescued by some locals. They take him to a hospital where he is treated for his illnesses and gets the proper nutrients that he has been lacking. Workers from the ship company interview him about what caused the ship to sink. As he does not know the answer to that, he tells them the story of his survival. They do not believe his story, so he tells them another in which the animals mirror crew members and passengers of the boat. There are many similarities between the two accounts, and there are elements of truth in each, similar to how there are elements of truth in all three of Pi's religions. The workers like the story with Richard Parker better, so they use that one in their report. 

     Pi moves to Canada like his family had intended on doing, and he gets a formal education there. He meets his wife in Toronto, named Meena and they start a life together and have two children, Nikhil (Nick) and Usha. After all the tragedy Pi has experienced in his life, and at such a young age, it is remarkable that he is able to lead such a happy and positive life.
