He treats everyone mean. For example, he was really strict with his daughter and he was unkind with Bud by yelling at him and not making him feel welcome. But underneath he is really caring. The reason he was so strict with his daughter is because he wanted the best for her. He thought if he wasn't firm with her she would not get as far in the real world. Also, he was only mean to Bud because he was still hurt from losing his own daughter. When he found out she was dead, he broke down and cried for days.
