Today was the first ever lesson of my Commercial/Street Class. This is very new to our timetable and has only been introduced this year.
My lecturer, Greg is very experienced in the Commercial/Street scene and I felt like I am going to learn a lot from him.

I felt really excited for this lesson as I thouroughly enjoy this style and feel comfortable in performing it.
We started the lesson with a very basic warm-up containing the foundations of the Commercial/Street Dance technique.

We learnt 2 sections of a routine, one in which focused on our use of musicality and the other which focused on a theme which we would be carrying on with as part of our Unit.
My lecturer, Greg insured to go over the material for everyone as we were all at different levels of technique within this style.

The first section of one routine was to the song 'You don't know me' - Jac Jones dre Skull Remix. This material contained a very dynamic range of sharp, soft, fluid movement which varied with the tempo of the song.

The next material we learnt was a lot more contemporary influenced with the song 'Warm water banks'.
As I felt quite comfortable in performing both styles it made me more confident and I found this to be one of my strengths in this class.
I also feel like a strength in this lesson was my ability to pick up movement quickly.

However, i found it quite difficult to dance with no shoes on when performing this style and also lacked in my use of interpretal skills.

Today's session gave me more of an indication on what type of commercial style we will be exploring in the lessons and what to prepare for and expect.

We started of course with a warm-up however, this warm up included some of the basic foundations of the Urban Dance style and also the material that we later used.

The warm-up included focusing on the torso, hips and shoulders and really losing up all aspects of our body in order to 'grove' and get 'funky' with this specific style.

After the warm-up we recapped material from the previous lesson and performed the a few times to ensure everyone was on the same page and knew how to execute the movement properly. I took it upon myself to help other students when going through the material before moving on to more technical, advanced material.

I really felt that in this part of lesson I had a sense of ownership and was very comfortable during the lesson.
It's very weird but somehow when performing in this style I tend to perform the movement full out but with out using my full potential on facial expressions where as in other styles it tends to be the other way around. I definitely see this as a strength and weakness and hopefully I can work on this in future lessons.

We then carried the lesson on by learning a new routine which was performed to the song 'Sweet Sweet' by Travis Scott which was very dynamically sharp, hard hitting and fast material and very coexisting with the music which was also very up beat and had a quick tempo. It is imperative that I hit the correct movements at the correct time in order for it to fit with the song.

This material I felt very comfortable with as I used to train in this style for a number of years outside of college.

A strength within this lesson for me was defiantly my ability to pick up the routine quickly however I still wasn't using my performance skills during this routine as it's defiantly something I need to look at when performing in the studio.

A target for me is to learn the more contemporary material from the 'Warm Water Banks' piece, making sure I am aware of spacing in order to move forward in my next lesson.

In today's session I knew I had a lot of catching up to do due to unfortunate circumstances.

I felt a bit vulnerable in today's lesson as i had been off for the last 2 sessions.
I took it upon myself to learn the missed lessons through use of video sent by another student.

We recapped on all 3 routines and continued to learn a new one to the song '17' - by MK.
I found this routine really exciting and started to feel more comfortable in the lesson.

The material had elements of Wakking in it, a form of the Commercial dance style and is very much a style in which I am confident in. As I was confident in this material it really led me into using my performance skills and my facial expressions which was a major strength for me as I found it hard to do this in the first two lessons.

We then moved onto 'Warm Water Banks', a weakness for me as I did not know the spacing of the routine. My target is to know the spacing of the routine ready to move forward in my next lesson.

Assessment week!!
The lesson started with a warm-up focusing on House and Groove technique pinpointing on our isolation within the movement.

With each house step we were questioned on how we could develop it? I used this opportunity to think about my arms and head and then developed into my shoulders and hips making it more groovy and funky.

We then moved on to learn a new phrased with the music '17' by MK. I thoroughly enjoyed this routine and although the movements were intricate I picked up the material quite quickly.
This led us into the spacing where I am place front left.

This was followed by a performance of 'Warm Water Banks' a few times and then a recap of 'lollie pop' by Lil Wyne.
I didn't know this routine very well so it is my target to know it by the time I come back from half term.

We also finished the lesson by learning a new routine to the same song. I found this one a bit harder than previous routines. It had a lot more isolation within the movement and grooving which I feel is one of my weaknesses.
