"Creating with Language" is a technique that I teach so that students learn how to deliver a spoken message without knowing all the words they want to say. This keeps them in the target language. After they learn the two strategies for how to do this (simplifying and circumlocution), they are required to create with language once a week for a few months, then twice a week, and so on. They can talk about anything they want and At the end of each year, the students all tell me that this was their favorite activity that year.

This is a participation game. As students speak more and more Spanish, they can move up the ladder. Who will get up the ladder first? If you speak English, you have to move down a rung... You can play teams, teacher vs. students, or however you would like! I printed six and colored each ladder a different color.

This is an activity where students use the language they have learned in order to talk about what is happening in the picture. Students are scaffolded through a series of questions to keep the conversation going. Students do a quick writing activity individually and then have a short conversation with a partner to talk about what is happening in the picture.
