Should the students’ first language (L1) be used in English teaching, or should English be taught entirely through the target language (L2)? by Songül İNCE

Unfortunately it is a must at some point, in my opinion. Though the more the age gap and level increases the less it should be used.

As Gökçe said sometimes we have to use the students mother tongue. But we can minimize the L1 usage as possible as we can.
