According to the Collins Dictionary, if you say that doing something is a crime, you think it is very wrong or a serious mistake. This means the birth of Trevor Noah is regarded as a serious mistake which could even be considered a crime as if he has slaughtered thousands of people before he was born. The reason behinds this is the idea of white supremacy: the white is the supreme race in this world so that they should not marry with other races, especially black people. Stereotypes like that might trouble Trevor a lot as he grew up. He might be bullied, whether by words or physically. If I were he, I would definitely feel angry at first, wave my fist and fight back, but it's not enough to eradicate the stereotypes. I would choose to study hard, stay alone, get into a good college and earn more money and power when getting into work.

Eddie Deng
@yingcheng
I don't agree with French Ambassador Mr. Araud that "they can't be Frenchbecause theya are black". As T.N. mentioned in his talk "Why can't they be both?" Your nationality doesn't mean everything. Your have your own lineage and the culture inherited from your parents which can both be different with your nationality. For example, my cousin was brought to America and lived there for the following years in the age of 5 because her parents was assigned to work there. Her parents later changed her nationality from Chinese to American. However, she still recognizs herself as a Chinese, she speaks Chinese fluently, she loves Chinese culture a lot, especially the customs of different dynasties. Nationality doesn't mean everything. As one black citizen in France said in her twitter that if you call those soccer team members as only French, it is colour blindness. Unless the players themselves agree and announced that the are unrelated to their origin and only French, ignoring their color and origin is unacceptable and offensive.
I totally understand that the France wants to guard their hard-won glory of the world cup and feel angry when Noah jokes "African won the world cup", but their reaction goes too far. First, as Noah says, his job is a comedian and his words should be less true. The ambassador should not emphasize that they are only French so many times, which gives people a sense that France is supreme than other races. This era is full of diversity, the era of colonialism has gone, so why just we accept that all races are equal and don't be so serious about a little joke.

Eddie Deng
October 5, 2021

One Wednesday, I got up after the clock has ringed for 20 minutes, turned off it, quickly washed my face, took my breakfast and my school bag and rode to school.
The day started with two EB classes as usual and I was praying that EB classes can end as fast as possible so that I can have my PE class. However, my teacher showed us a video about an interview of both Black Americans and Asian Americans in which some response had challenged my ideas.

One question in the interview asked that whether the interviewees think that Asian Americans are more advantaged than Black Americans. To my suiprise, all the interviewees, both Black and Asian agreed to this statement. I thought that both Black American and Asian are minor ethnic groups in America and they both tend to be treated unfairly. For example, they might be dicriminated because of their origin ---no matter that was how many generations before, disregard of their nationality as American right now. The interviewees said that Asian Americans are favored by the employers as they think Asian Americans are hard-working, not causing problem and good at maths or other subjects. Those stereotypes help Asian Americans to get jobs easier than Black Americans. This really challenged my idea. I didn't know that Black Americans view Asian Americans to be more advantaged until I watched this video.

Aligadoo:
As an Asian American whose parents migrated from Malaysia to America.

https://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/covid-19-information-workplaces/industry-information/office/physical-distancing#heading--1--tab-toc-case_study%C2%A0%E2%80%93_lifts

ACME Financial (ACME) works is an employer of around 100 workers. They operate from a single level of an office building with three lifts servicing a total of 10 floors and around 1,000 workers. A number of different employers occupy leased space on other floors within the office complex.

As an employer with duties to workers under WHS laws ACME implements a range of measures to reduce exposure to COVID-19, including physical distancing.

Following consultation with workers and their representatives, ACME decide to allow 25% of their workers to work from home and expand the range of start and finish times for the other workers coming into the office. Some workers volunteer to start early and finish early (7:30am to 3:30pm) whilst other workers have volunteered to start and finish later (9:30am-5:30pm).

This significantly reduces the flow of workers entering and leaving the office building at peak periods.

ACME also consults and works cooperatively with other WHS duty holders, including the building manager and other employers, to manage the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in the building:

The building manager calculates recommended passenger limits for each lift to ensure that overcrowding does not occur and that lift users are able to maintain appropriate physical distancing and cough and sneeze etiquette while using the lift. Signage displaying these limits are displayed in and outside the lift.

The building owner also establishes an email forum so that employers on each floor can consult each other and share strategies to keep workers and visitors safe when riding in lifts, and to pinpoint times of peak demand.

The building manager puts in place a number of measures for the use of the building’s lifts. These include establishing a queuing system in the lift waiting area with floor markings, as well as placing signage around the waiting area to remind workers to physically distance and practice good hygiene. There is also increased cleaning of lifts, including touch touchpoints such as lift buttons, and alcohol-based sanitiser is readily available in lift waiting areas for workers to use when arriving and leaving.

Following consultation with the building owner and other tenants, it becomes clear that there will still be a peak period of demand over the hour 12:30-1:30pm when many workers leave the building to purchase lunch. The group agrees it is not reasonably practicable to direct workers when they may purchase their lunch and that lift capacity may temporarily increase at this time.

ACME and other tenants undertake to consult with workers and visitors, and to emphasise the importance of not entering a lift already at capacity. Each tenant also supplies clean tissues, hand sanitiser and signage about cough etiquette near the lifts on their floor to ensure the best hygiene and awareness possible.

The building manager also undertakes to consult with the two cafés on site to investigate whether they would consider deliveries of food items to address some of the demand over the lunchtime peak period.

Through investigation, I could clearly see the importance of collaboration of private sectors and the government. The government relies on the private sectors on fighting the pandemic for many aspects. For example, the private sectors can help producing masks or provide extra Covid-19 testing. They are also more efficient than the government on imposing the policies. The employers can require the employees to provide negative Covid-19 test result, for instance, or the employees should be vaccinated so that they would be permitted to work. One of the Australian company did a case study on the use of the lifts. They collected data to analyze how often the lifts are used during different time intervals so that they can help the workers devise the best way to keep physical distancing.

10/20/2021

By: Dully McBoringface

Harry Potter is a memory of the whole Z generation. Almost all of us have read it when we were still kids. Harry Potter is a book about a wizard named Harry Potter. It tells about his adventures with Weasel and Hermoomly as they fight Bad-Snake-Face-Man. Recently I heard the word "pop culture" and started to wonder what is the most significant pop culture from my generation. Pop culture refers to what is generally recognized by members of a society as a set of the practices, beliefs, and objects that are dominant or prevalent in a society at a given point in time. I would say the most significant one must be Harry Potter. The supernatural magic world really excites me. One week ago, the first Harry Potter theme park also started operation in London. I believe more and more people will be attracted to there and Harry Potter will be much more well-known.

The first time you tried drinking and socializing with foreigners in their ways. It is a very unique and memorable memory of college life. The target culture I want to relate to is America. There are many bars in America and many of them are located near the campus. When I took a trip to Washington D.C two years ago, I went to visit the campus of Geoge Washington University in the evening, about 9 p.m. I saw almost every light of the stores on the street fade but there was only one place that emit bright light. My mother told me that was a bar and most of the people who were cheering inside are the students of GW. The stores in America shut off before 8 p.m, so the place where the Americans can go and enjoy their nights are only bars. Unlike in Shanghai, the shopping malls and other big brand stores close at about 11 p.m to 12 p.m.

Dear freshman in WCU, we are the student union of the Wild Chicken University. As your first year will be forced to live in the dorms with 2-3 dormmates, quarrels might generate among you guys due to the difference in culture, in living habits and etc. This guideline adopts the wisdom of the whole student union and lists several important tips to maintain a good relationship with your dormmates. Hope this can help you!

1, It would be great if you and your dormmates meet at the first day you met in the dorm to discuss about the rules you are going to follow in the following year. Do not wait until problems happen!

2, You are not allowed to drink in the dorm. If you want to raise a party, please go and find somewhere else. Besides, the legal drinking in America is 21. Therefore, if you see your dormmates drinking, feel free to call the hotline 13544657 to report and we will give him/her a fine.

3, You are supposed to do the cleaning of your dorm and ensure no furniture is damaged. You are only responsible for your own room for sure. We will periodically inspect your dorm. If something is damaged or loss in your own room, you will be fined. If anything in the public space such as the kitchen is wrong, all the students living in the dorm will be fined, so make sure you don’t use the furniture to hit your dormmates when you are in a quarrel.

For more guidelines, you can visit our website wildchickenuniversity.studentunion.com to see. Wish you have a happy and memorable college life!

Strengths: Text type is clear. Tone and register is appropriate throughout the entire guideline. Good use of vocabulary is included.
Limitations: There are some minor grammatical mistakes such as "in culture, in living habits and etc". Don't use "Besides" as a sentence starter. Rephrase some sentences such as "If anything in the public space such as the kitchen is wrong". All of the above mistakes might hamper the understanding of readers. Another noteworthy problem is that you might not fully developed your response to answer "how to have a good roommate relationship". Though you did mention in it in the introductory paragraph, you seemed to neglect it in the rest of the writing.

I am Guomena Atto, a first-year college student. Recently, I have known what my personal signature strengths are and changed some of my daily and weekly schedules to engage in more activities that involve my strengths.

I have been learning how to play the Go game for over 10 years. At first, I studied very hard. I practiced for over 1 hour every day after school and I go to Go game schools every weekend--spending the whole day there. However, as I grow up, most of my time is spent on studying school subjects. The higher the grade I am, the lesser spare time I have to spend on practicing the Go game. When I entered high school, I only played the game once a week in the club.

The coming of the pandemic brings an opportunity---to pick up the practicing of the Go game. Because of the pandemic, all the classes are turned into the online form, the homework becomes lesser, and also the lessons. My spare time becomes abundant and I play the Go game online for over 2 hours every day.
At that time, I understand that my personal signature strength is persistence. A persistent love of the Go game and am willing to practice it whenever how busy I am. To distribute more time on practicing the Go game. The reading time every day is substituted (an hour) and every weekend there will be at least 2 hours spent on playing the Go game.
