I often think about my setting as stereotyped. People assume Newark is the worst place to live and people assume people from Newark won’t succeed.

   People have mixed feelings about my setting because the people in my setting can come of “ghetto” but Newark can be a really nice place if people didn’t act the way they do.

   People fear they might get shot or hurt in Newark because Newark has a reputation of being harmful.

  People have learned that Newark isn’t really a bad setting at all.

My mom would like to see more kids in Newark care about their education because she is a special-aid teacher in an eighth grade class and she notices some kids just don’t care.

  My setting has taught me that education is important to succeed.

  My setting has taught me to be thankful for what I have because sometimes I complain over little things but there are people in my setting who are actually struggling.

Whole, firm, valued

I notice someone is hanged

The ground below their feet

And blood creating rain

Yes it’s a person of color

With white’s standing near

The rope keeps its grip 

While all the white’s cheer

Seeing this action

Created sudden rage

Now what if they could feel 

This sudden pain.

I kept quiet and walked by

Thought about it ‘till night

Then I made a plan

And this is how it went:

I'll paint red on the walls
And turn off all the lights
I'll make springs into falls
And all days into nights

Darkness will be my friend
And we'll rule together
I don't want dreams to end
They should last forever

Yet the door is closing
Back to reality
The curtain is falling
Farewell my fantasy

As we suffer inside
In silence every day
We keep trying to hide
All of our pain away

Well sometimes I lie down
I close my eyes and fade
I wear my dusty crown
And rule the realm I made.

 Creating and compiling this portfolio is beneficial to me because I brought out some traits from me that I never knew I had. I was super dedicated to making this portfolio because I knew if I put 100% effort into this only good things would come. The skills I applied into making this portfolio will be beneficial in the ‘real world’ because it gave me a sense of dedication and achieving my goals. I knew something as small a portfolio could change my future completely. I hope this Portfolio helps me get into Paramus Catholic High School.
