The argument makes no sense at all. How is executing Karla Faye Tucker by lethal injection any [more] cruel than the way she used a pick-ax to viciously butcher two people to death? Liberals should be thankful that the death penalty isn't based on the Biblical premise of lex talionis (the punishment should fit the crime).

Rather than being "cruel and unusual," capital punishment actually treats murderers with more kindness and dignity than their victims receive. To stop executing those who have committed brutal crimes would put society at risk, the author concludes. At the time this viewpoint was written, Scaljon was a student majoring in government at the University of Texas in Austin.
