Cities: In 4500 BC, southern Iraq near the Tigris and euphrates river was an area known as mesopotamia which in greek for “ land between rivers” A geographic feature that was important in mesopotamia was the Tigris and euphrates river which was the river’s surrounding mesopotamia this was helpful because mesopotamia had a hot and dry climate so it was used for drinking but it also influenced trade, later the mesopotamians had invented a sailboat one that used wind power not man power they used the boat’s to travel and trade to faraway land’s. In the spring the river often flooded giving rich soil for farming. Later farmer’s came up with dam’s and ways to control channel’s and river’s, because flooding became unpredictable so this way of controlling the water and useing it is called irrigation. The latter city’s began to form in southern mesopotamia in about 3000 BC. So with an efficient way of trade, and two bodies of water for drinking and farming, and a strong method of farming led to the start of city’s. As for the best cities In my opinion were Uruk and Nineveh who: wheel Uruk This city was located in southern Mesopotamia, right along the banks of the bank’s o the euphrates river which had more than 80,000 people living there, the city was able to grow so fast because of it’s body of water which provided clean water to drink, and because of their advanced Irrigation and farming techniques. The biggest reason people settled in Uruk was because of its city’s abundant supply of food which made the city rich. It was Ruled by famos King Gilgamesh. It was the center of all civilization . Then Nineveh, This was the greatest city of the Assyrian Empire, the city was well defended. It was largely built by king Sennacherib The city had 7 square kilometers and 15 gates, under the last king of the assyrians built a library with over 20,000 tablet’s. So the city had defence and 18 canal’s that brought water everywhere in the city, and education.

Organized government: Whel latter in 300 BC city’s began to form into city states: A city and the land around it that had it’s own government. These were the earliest of government. Later king’s ran the government They designed buildings , and marched their armies. Hereditary was the way proses when one king died, his son would take over. Similar to what is today first class ,second class, third class, Mesopotamia's system was similar upper class which consisted of: King’s, priests, priestess, and government, controlled land, even once could run and rule it which was the highest of power and often respected. Then there were middle class consisting of: Merchants, Artesens, farmers, and fisher’s. This was the vast majority group. Then there was lower class which consisted of slaves, the people who worked in farm’s, and built great temples. Even women and men had different roles but both had right’s women could own land as well as men. King’s like Hammurabi, the first to produce honest law’s. Law’s helped people know there place and kept the civilization running with little problems for fear of punishment.

Class Division

Class Division: Class division, was the order of civilization where each person stood in a scale of power and wealth. Here are the class division’s: Upper class, this class consisted of: King’s, priests, priestesses, and government. King’s ruled over their own city state, because mesopotamia consisted of many regions and city states there wasn't an organized government that would rule over all mesopotamia there for king’s had over time followed Hammurabi code of laws, which kept civilization’s organized.

Kings were in charge of ruling their own city state they decided building structure as well. Prestes and prestes both were equal to the rank of a king, with power, not always wealth but also honer they were relied on and well respected, priests were allowed in room’s forbidden for a general audience. The form of government was very peculiar in ancient mesopotamia, King’s often were the only authority of their city state and, made law’s and at times decided how the god’s should be worshiped and praised, they would command Empires and army’s, declare battle and even made law’s at time’s there were small assembly cort dickinson's between the people who could argue whi or why not it was a good or bad law. The middle class was most popular as there were more of them. The middle class consisted of: Merchants, farmers, and fisher’s. Merchants were well respected people, for they were responsible for importing and exporting traded goods on ship’s at times, they would travel to other city states to trade for goods or critical necessities needed for the merchant's homeland that was scarce. Farmer’s impacted society to, they used the first method of irrigation to control nearby sources of water for their crop’s. Fisherman were the next to adapt to sail boat’s they would bring fish from the water’s, which could be eaten when crop’s were scarce. Lower class consisted of slaves: Ones who performed free act’s of labor against their will, worked in fields, and built temples. Another benefit for middle class is that they could all keep what they earned and sell what they did not need a way to make money and use what you have left over. Upper class had the highest advantage they could form rules, laws they must be followed and received much respect. For lower class, children were forced into labor a setback.

Writing: The mesopotamians used a tablet with wedge mark’s as an early way of writing emitting an idea to one and another, This form of writing was called a cuneiform, even before people would draw the object, as a symbol representing it. Writing was important because Hammurabi, gave his Ideas of honest laws through writing, And latter the Sennacherib king Came up of the Idea of Recording there way’s of life and events that happened day to day, There callender's and Astronomy was recorded in result more than 20,000 tablet’s.
