How is the Hero's Journey interpreted in your book and why was it interpreted that way?

In the Hero's Journey, the hero encounters many challenges. These challenges can be physical, mental, or social, but in The 100 by Kass Morgan, there are much more physical threats because the whole aspect of space, exploration, and survival are all about physical threats. One example is when the main character, Clarke, finds out how she will be able to communicate with the ARK.
¨´What is this?´ she asked frantically, pulling away from the doctor. ´Just relax,´ he said with infuriating coolness. ´It's a vital transponder. It will track your breathing and blood composition, and gather all sorts of useful information.¨ (Morgan 7).

Why does the Author use genre conventions and the Hero´s Journey to help them communicate theme?

The author uses the Hero's Journey because it is used in basically every story as a basic structure and organizational tool that helps anyone with a passion to write or communicate stories. These conventions are used to show new ideas and ways of thinking.

How is the Hero's Journey interpreted in your book and why was it interpreted that way?

The Hero's Journey is presented in the Guide by introducing the main character, Arthur Dent, in his ordinary world of the UK on Earth. It goes on to show the start of the adventure with Arthur and Ford Prefect being summarily rescued twice from certain death. The characters go on towards a planet where they are shot at using missiles and Arthur is taken by a local. He is told a secret by the local and the characters escape the planet and imminent death. At the end, Arthur is elevated to Hitchhiker of the Galaxy. The Hero's Journey is interpreted this way because of the plot. The Earth is destroyed so there isn't much reluctance to go forward since there's nowhere to go back to. A love interest is introduced, but they don't really play the biggest part when the HJ is concerned. This is also the first book in a series of four, so the HJ is not as prominent as is would be if you were to read the entire array.

Why does the Author use genre conventions and the Hero´s Journey to help them communicate theme?

Genre conventions in the Guide are very prominently displayed. Aliens come into play in the first chapter and continue throughout the book, and the ideal of space exploration is the entire premise of the series.
