I believe that the person with the biggest impact on Carlotta's life was Big Daddy. He took care of her many times and she seemed to really care about him. In the memoir Carlotta says "I could see through the car window the silhouette of Big Daddy, a cigar clenched between his teeth and a pool stick in his hand, standing in the darkness, checking on his grandbaby". I think this shows that he cared as much about her as she did about him.

Anne and her family were in hiding all because of their religion. Their racist and discriminatory ruler, Hitler, did not allow equal treatment to Jews, similar to how Carlotta and the LR9 were treated very differently from everyone just because of their race and what they look like. They were just normal human beings just like anyone else and everyone deserves the same treatment no matter what they look like or what they believe.

"used the N-word liberally as he talked about the Africans who were enslaved" (LaNier, 5)

I believe this because in A Mighty Long Way it says "Because of what happened to Emmett Till, Mississippi became a fearsome place in my mind, and I wanted never to set foot there. That must have been the case with the adults in my family, too, because from that moment on, Daddy mapped out our road trips so that we never passed through Mississippi." This shows that Carlotta's daddy was fearful of Mississippi and influenced Carlotta to be as well. They never set foot in Mississippi and they never will.

The connection i can make between them is that they both had to overcome great difficulty and caused a big change in the world. Genghis Khan had to go through betrayal and losing family members and loved ones, which is very difficult to go through. Carlotta had to go through threats on her life and the life of her family along with harassment and hate. This is also something difficult to go through. My second connection is that they both changed the world. Genghis Khan united all of the mongolian tribes, while Carlotta helped bring along civil rights and integration. These are both huge changes in the world

I feel like the greatest impact of Carlotta’s trip to New York was the fact that New York was in the North where blacks weren’t treated as lesser people and Carlotta liked the feeling of freedom and on her way back to Little Rock, she came to the conclusion that she was no longer the same girl, and decided “Suddenly, the wild had opened wider. It was just a matter of time before I was ready to step out of the one I knew.”
