One example of foreshadowing from The Landlady is how the story gives vague descriptions of the details with the kids (Christopher Mulholland and Gregory Temple). An example of this is when Billy was recalling were he heard the name Christopher Mulholland he talks about an incident that happens to him, but Billy gets cut off by the landlady. I believe that this is to foreshadow that Billy is going to find Christopher Mulholland deceased. Part of the incident happening to Christopher is that it happens a long time ago based off of being hard for Billy to remember were he heard the name Christopher Mulholland. It was another way to show that both of the people were deceased.

One example of foreshadowing from the story, The Landlady, was when Billy Weaver saw a sign that caught his eyes, Bed and Breakfast. He thought that each word was like a large black eye staring at him staring at him through the glass, holding him, compelling him, forcing him to stay where he was and not to walk away from the house. I believe this foreshadows that the Landlady will be watching him because he might be the only customer, the other customers might have already been dead, or even worse, stuffed like the stuffed animals. Then when the time comes, the landlady will be holding him, forcing him to stay were he was , right at the household. He will be like the sign, forced to stay in the household, not being able to move.

One example of foreshadowing is the stuffed dog and parrot.
I believe this foreshadows that Billy will find the two previous residents of the house dead and stuffed just like the animals. The reason I believe this is because the landlady says that she stuffed the animals herself and Billy says they are very life like even though they are dead. Also the landlady talks about one of the previous residents, Gregory Temple, saying how perfect he was and how "his skin was just like a baby's." The landlady also makes comments like how Billy is the perfect age and how she will only let in "acceptable young gentlemen" The landlady also tells Billy how the previous two residents never left after 3 years, she says "left? But my dear boy, he never left. He's still here. Mr. Temple is also here. They're on the third floor, both of them together." The way she phrased this was a little odd saying both of them are together, it makes it seem like they are just sitting somewhere upstairs not even doing anything. Billy also remembers the names of the past two residents but when he tries to think of where he heard them the landlady cuts him off multiple times, like she is trying to keep him from remembering. Also this is just a fact I got from doing a little extra research but I thought it would be interesting and fun to include (well not exactly fun because it's about poison but it's still interesting) Billy talks about how the tea tastes like bitter almond. Some poisons, possibly cyanide, smells or tastes like bitter almond. SO it is possible that in that moment Billy is drinking poison. Also Emma is the one who told me about how it may be poison and so even though she talks about it in her padlet I still wanted to mention it. Anyway, combining all those clues I believe that the stuffed pets are foreshadowing the two previous residents being stuffed and dead.

One example of foreshadowing is that when Billy had a memory of the names Christopher Mulholland and Gregory Temple . When he said that both names seemed connected with each other the Landlady tries to get his mind off those names by telling him to sit down and drink some tea with her. That made me think that she doesn't want Billy to know what happened to Christopher Mulholland and Gregory Temple. Another example of foreshadowing is that the Landlady also said that both Christoper and Gregory were still in the house and had never left, she also mentioned that she stuffed her pets after they passed way. This made me think that the reason that Christopher and Gregory had never left is because they are no longer alive and the Landlady had stuffed their deceased bodies.

An example of foreshadowing i noticed, was the tea. It was subtle but I still think it was an important example of foreshadowing in the story. The landlady asks Billy if he would like some tea and and they had some she would stop talking about how one of her past residents, Mr. Mulholland, was a great one for tea, and that never in her life she had seen someone drink as much tea. I felt as if she was referring to one specific time, by the way she phrased it and not in general so I thought it was a bit weird. I forget about it but but then when later in the story, Billy noted how the tea tasted like 'bitter almonds'. Que in the kazoo kid because then I go WAIT A MINUTE! As some of you may know, some poisons taste like bitter almonds so when I read that I though she may have poisoned him. This foreshadows that billy may get poisoned, but not just poisoned. Poisoned and then stuffed, like the Landlady pets (and maybe even the two guys upstairs but we don't know that for sure). The stuffed animals I feel like are foreshadowing to because they aren't alive but she keeps them in her house in life like positions. And when she tells billy in the beginning (and again at the end) that he is the only resident but near the end she says that the other other two men are still here, then that can only mean one thing. That the men were dead and stuffed and kept on third floor. So to recap, their is a lot of foreshadowing going on in the story if you look close enough.

One example of foreshadowing from the story that I noticed was her scent. The author wrote "Now and again, he caught a whiff of a peculiar smell that seemed to emanate directly from her person. It was not in the least unpleasant, and it reminded him - well, he wasn't quite sure what it reminded him of. Pickled walnuts? New leather? Or was it the corridors of a hospital?" This caught my attention because at first, I had no idea what it had to with the story, but later on I realized that the author was foreshadowing the fact that the landlady stuffs animals and pets. You might be confused on why I think that, but let me explain. Usually, animal stuffing needs to be done very professionally with all sorts of important and bizarre tools. The kind of tools you might use in a hospital's surgery ward. Keep in mind the quote "Or was it the corridors of a hospital?" regarding her scent. This foreshadows that Billy will get stuffed and put on the third floor for the rest of his life, just like Mr. Temple and Mr. Mulholland.

An example of foreshadowing was at the end of the story, because it says, "You did sign the book, didn't you?", it then says that Billy did sign the book and then the Landlady seems to be relieved and says, "Later on, if I happen to forgot what you were called, then I can always come down here and look it up." I find this suspicious as I haven't seen the other characters, Christopher Mulholland and Gregory Temple. They signed the book, and never seemed to show up after years later, this makes me think that they have disappeared and that Billy could be the next victim. The Landlady says that people barely go there as Billy is the only customer there for the year.

An example of Foreshadowing in this story was the stuffed pets and the past two visitors. The Stuffed pets gives of a bad aura that this lady is not as calm as she seems. Why would you want to stuff you dogs instead of get a new dog. It would be more welcoming to visitor to have a happier real dog rather than a cold, lifeless thing. The fact that she stuffs the pets makes me think she could have killed the other two residents and done something similar to her. The past two people who never checked rises the suspicions of why they were in so long. To me, it is not normal to stay in a hotel for over 2 years. The dead pets and the two people never leaving together create an overall sense of foreboding.

An example of foreshadowing is when Billy was trying to remember the names Christopher Mulholland and Gregory Temple. He recalled that he was sure that he saw those names in a newspaper, which could foreshadow that they were missing. In the story it says "I'm almost positive it was in the newspaper when I saw them." This could be signifying or foreshadowing that they were still were at Bed and Breakfast. Later in the story, it shows that her pets the parrot and the dachshund that were stuffed because they passed away. The landlady states that Christopher Mullholland and Gregory Temple still live together at Bed and Breakfast, which could mean that they are dead and people have been looking for them for quite awhile. Earlier in the story, the landlady states about Billy's age and how is very young and how he is about the same age as Christopher when he came. The landlady could be doing the same thing she did to Christopher and Gregory. Her kindness seemed too sweet which gave a strange feeling, which soon revealed that she isn't who she seems to be.

In the story she states that she stuffed her pets on her own and was completly ok with it, which is strange because whe because it is really gross to basically dissect and stuff your dog, then using it as a prop. This makes me think that she stuffed the other guests and left them on the 3rd floor.

One example of foreshadowing in 'The Landlady' is when Billy realizes that the two animals, the parrot and the dog, are both stuffed but have realistic features. This foreshadows an event later in the story where Billy realizes there were past residents that have stayed there before. He says he remembers the names very slightly but can't seem to know why he feels familiar with them. This could mean that the two past guests, Gregory Temple and Christopher Mulholland, ended up like the two stuffed pets the lady had in the lobby. She tries to keep this idea out of conversation between these two by changing the topic and drinking tea. Later into the conversation, Billy claims that Gregory and Christopher have left recently but the lady explains that, ''He's still here. Mr. Temple is also here. They're on the fourth floor, both of them together''. This can mean that she 'did' something with the two men and that she kept them both in the house ever since they first stepped in the house.

I believe this foreshadows the truth of what really happened to Mr. Mulholland and Mr. Temple because both of the Lady's pets, the parrot and the dog were both dead and stuffed to look like they are alive, but really quiet. And when the lady said that both the men "never left" it had to signify that they were in that house for more that three years while showing no proof that they were actually there. So maybe the Lady killed them and stuffed them and left them in a closed room.

One example of foreshadowing from the story, The Landlady , is how she stuffed her two pets so perfectly that it fooled the main character Billy Weaver. When the landlady was describing Mr.Temple she said," His skin was just like a baby's,". The word "was" is past tense, which would suggest that Mr. Temple's skin is not so cute anymore. The landlady said that her two other guest Mr. Temple and Mr. Mulholland, haven't left in years and are still at the inn, which makes me think that they died long ago and that she stuffed them too

Mr. Temple is also here" this means Mr. Maholland and Mr. Temple had never left the bed and breakfast boarding house. The Landlady also states that she "stuffs all her pets when they pass away". I wonder where Mr. Temple and Mr. Mahollad could be if they are still in the building.

This could foreshadow that she did this to her two other guests, Mullholland and Temple, which could mean why they never left and why she didn't give details about them like it was forbidden. So Billy Weaver could be the next one to be stuffed.

There is a whole bunch of foreshadowing in the story, kind of giving you a hint into what might happen, but I was kind of sad how they left a cliff hanger, and the story wasn't really finished! Now the 2 things that really creeped me out was when she said "I stuff all my little pets myself when they pass away," this foreshadows that she might have done something to the other 2 guests. When she was talking about Mr. Temple and told Billy "His skin was just like a baby's" this also foreshadows that something might've happened to Mr. Temple. Hearing her saying this in the story made feel like AAHHHH, I would've been gone before she even said her last word, out the door !

One example of foreshadowing in "The Landlady" was when it shows that the two animals he saw were actually stuffed. This is weird because in order to stuff an animal, you need a lot of weird and bizarre tools. Tools that you would find in a hospital. The fact that she has these tools is suspicious. This foreshadows that this might happen to Billy just like the people on the third floor.

An example for foreshadowing in this story is when Mr weaver looked inside of the notebook and saw that there were only two people inside of it. When he thought harder to see if he remembered the names it popped up he kept on getting cut off by the lady. This is fore shadowing that he might either end up missing like the other two people in the house or if he will ever find the two people that are deceased and stuffed or just trapped because she said that she like to stuff all of her animals that passed away. She also says that she only likes to let certain people in. This is kind of a weird theory but maybe she only likes to let the "handsome" boys in because she poisons them then stuffs them and keeps them somewhere so that she can always look at them.

One example of foreshadowing is how he could not resist going to the bed and breakfast. When he was about to leave, he caught sight of a cozy room with what looked like live animals and a fireplace. It even says, "Each word was like a large black eye staring at him through the glass, holding him, compelling him, forcing him to stay where he was and not to walk away from that house, and the next thing he new, he was actually moving from the window to the front door of the house, climbing the steps that led up to it, and reaching for the bell." He was unable to control himself and it seemed to be eerily nice and welcoming. It showed that it was going to be different, maybe nice, maybe scary, maybe even bad, but it definitely not like your basic hostel.

An example of foreshadowing in the story is, when Billy noticed the stuffed animals (the parrot and dog) had animal-like characteristics. It states in the story, "It's terribly clever the way it's been done". This quote can means the the lady thought of a way of murdering. It also states in the story "I stuff all my little pets when they pass away".
Both of theses quote show foreshadowing because the lady might have hurt or done something to the guest that stayed there in the past. This could be why the "Landlady" also said the other two guest never left. The "Landlady" could have done what she did the animals, to the other to guest.

I feel like there was a lot of foreshadowing in this short story. One example of foreshadowing is when Billy touches the dog on the floor and he realizes it's stuffed just like the parrot. Later in the story the land lady talks about how the two guys that also have their names written down in the book are still there. I feel like this foreshadows that the two men are also stuffed like her two pets that are mentioned in the story. Also, another reason to back up what I said before, is that in the story when the land lady is talking about the men she uses the past tense word "was". She uses this when she is talking about the men's skin. Therefore, I believe that this foreshadows that she is going to murder him and then stuff him like she did to her pets and possibly the two men that never checked out.
