1) Thoughts on the significance of educational policies--
Educational policies are necessary for the execution of curriculm in secondary schools. This will ensure structure and guidelines to the adminstration of schools and staff.
2. How does policy guide your practice?
Policy guides my teaching because it offers the parameters in which i can operate. When policies are vague it makes enforcing them difficult and a state of confusion can arise. Various issues in the policies were discussed and submitted durig the workshop. The MOE should seriously take these into consideration with this new drive to infuse ICT into the teaching profession.

Give your reflections on the role (sustainability?) of didactic instruction. Is it still relevant? How would the use of technology impact how you employ didacticism in the future?

Didactic teaching methods will always have a role to play in instructing students during the learning process. In my opinion it is still very relevant as one of the tools used in didactic instruction is listening to the teacher. The knowledge that a teacher possesses should always be utilised and can be used to get students interested in a particular topic to which they have never been exposed to before.
That being said, technology can assist me in teaching. After a topic is introduced the various ways of ensuring that students fully grasped the topic can be greatly influenced with the use of technology;in evaluation, visual representations of what have been taught and research.
In summary there has to be a merge of
didactic instruction and technology, which will encourage students to have more responsibility in their education without making the role of the teacher
obsolete.

Give your perceptions of how ICT is used in your subject area. Is there merit in using ICT for substitution and augmentation? How do you see yourself using ICT more meaningfully in the future?

1. ICT is generally under used in my subject area, largely due to the lack of resources available at my school.

2. Yes there is merit for using ICT for substitution and augmentation, as it is a good way to start to infuse ICT in teaching. It should not be heavily relied on as Modification and Redefinition should be infused as well. All the aspects of the SAMR model should be used for teaching and learning.

3. I can see myself using ICT more on the modification and redefinition levels in the future as there are many tools available to do this. However this is all dependent on the resources available at the school and the access of my students to resources when they are not in the classroom.

1) Share your perceptions on the session with particular reference to the needs of learners with special needs. How can you, your school make a greater effort to assist such students?

Students with special needs should be taken into consideration to ensure that they learn the various subjects. Myself and my school can identify such students and place special attention to their specific learning style and enforce it. This may require observing students carefully taking note of instances where particular students found learning difficult.

2) Describe a scenario, real or imagined, where you were asked to deliver a concept/topic to a class that comprised students of predominantly two learning styles (or intelligences). Describe the methodology (ies) used to ensure that students understood the concept/topic.

IMAGINED SCENARIO: A form 2 Social Studies class has 38 students 15 are Visual learners and 23 are Auditory, the Topic taught was settlement patterns. The concepts were explained to students verbally and repeated to ensure the auditory learners grasped the concepts. There was then a presentation done using sway which showed various pictures of places with different settlement patterns. Students were then required to draw and explain in their own words the various types of settlement patterns.

Give your thoughts on the ICT Teacher Professional Development Programme, sharing the areas you felt were most significant in helping you to use technology in your teaching and learning strategies.

This programme was quite enlightening. While I was aware of some of the tools that were available for use in ICT, this programme introduced me to various web 2.0 tools and concepts that I can infuse in my teaching. Edmodo, sway, e-testing and Class Notebook especially stood out to me and I will love to use them in my classes. However my school does not currently have the facilities for this. I do hope in the near future this will be addressed. I greatly appreciated this programme and I do hope my students will benefit from this as well.
