The Maori creation story is very similar to the creation story in the bible. Instead of their Father(God), who is not a human like our God, they refer to the Earth as their father, and they believe that the Earth is alive. The moon, sun, and sky refer to the heavens. They believe that the world created itself out of darkness and nothingness, like it just appeared, and then more things and wildlife just started appearing from then. The creation happened because of the separation of the light (Ranginui, or Rangi) and the darkness (Papatuanunku, or Papa); they are like mom and dad.

One of the gods, Tane Mahuta, the God of forests and birds. He created the first human(woman), Hineahuone. Humans dont play a role in the separation of light and darkness; they are created after as descendants of this divine family.

Relationships, unity, love, and compassion.

The Maori story shows love and compassion through the deep love of Papa and Rangi.

Land, soil, the sea, the source of rain, stars, light, and darkness.

In the story, it talks about Tangaroa Mahuta, God of the sea.

It talks about how the light and the darkness were really close until the God's separated them and created the world.

Marduk rose to lead the other God's against Tiamat, goddess of the salt oceans. He fought and killed Tiamat, and after he split her body in half, he turned one half into the sky and the heavens, and the other half is the Earth(Land). In the beginning, there was Apsu, god of fresh waters, and Tiamat, the Goddess of saltwater oceans; they parented two gods. Apsu was tired of his kids; he suggested to Tiamat that he slay them. She was furious. He did it anyway, killed them without hesitation. After that, he fathered Marduk with the Goddess Damkina, the four-eared, four-eyed giant who was The Goddess of rain and storms.

Soon after Marduk killed Tiamat and created the world out of her body, the gods started to complain about the burden of maintaining the world. Marduk decided to create humans; they were made specifically to be servants to the God's.

power, leadership, hierarchy/authority, service/duty, sacrifice, and order over chaos.

Power is shown when Marduk defeats Tiamat, the great chaos monster, showing that true power often comes through overcoming chaos and destruction. His victory proves he is the strongest among the other gods.

Leadership is shown when Marduk steps forward when the other gods are afraid to confront Tiamat. Marduk's willingness to face danger shows a leader's courage and readiness to accept responsibility.
