When this song was written, it had been about 400 years since slavery was outlawed.
(2) KRS-One probably put slavery in a song about police brutality because it's similar in a lot ways. Even though slavery had been outlawed while this song was written, it still overlaps in multiple ways. For example, a black male may be stopped and frisked simply for the fact that he looks ''similar to a suspect''.
(3) ''And if you fight back they put a hole in your chest'' This is my favorite line in this song. It's my favorite because it's still relevant today. Mainly black men have been, and are still being assaulted simply for them ''looking suspicious''.

"The overseer rode around the plantation," Masters rode around the plantation watching the slaves to make sure they were doing their job. "And if you fought back, the overseer had the right to kill," If a slave did not obey their master, they could get killed.
He would rap about slavery in a song about police brutality because the two are similar. White men (typically) are in control of the situation over black people; they can do what they want without consequence.
"The officer has the right to arrest

And if you fight back they put a hole in your chest," This part of the verse makes a statement about police brutality and how they treat black people. It is my favorite part of the song because it is true. The police can kill you at any time. Even when you are not disobeying them. Most likely they will not get in trouble. You are told to comply and complain later, but in some situations, it is necessary to fight back.

''After 400 years, I've got no choices'' , he talks about how they still don't have choice, like they didn't hva choice back then. The way white slave masters had power over black people back then is the same way white authorities have power over black people today.
"(Woop!) They both ride horses

After 400 years, I've got no choices", the horses white slave masters rode are police cars in the modern day. KRS is basically saying after 400 years black people are still being treated unfairly.
KRS One rapped about slavery in a song about police brutality to let people know that black people are still being treated unfairly even though slavery took place centuries ago.
"There could never really be justice on stolen land

Are you really for peace and equality?", This verse really stood out to me because it shows that america did not start out peacefully so peace can never really exist here.
