I am excited to be able to connect with a powerful group of educators who are passionate about students and who are surely aching for even more ways to engage students digitally in this COVID world. I appreciate that AVID, as always, puts people and community first because we know that no significant learning can happen without a significant relationship. Thank you, Julie, for your facilitation and moderation - you are awesome! I really appreciate you reaching out, sharing resources and keeping connections going.

TM
We are living in a new world as educators. Training must adapt to the needs of our participants and the environment we now live in. Online training will become more and more important in the years to come for a variety of reasons. There is no reason online PD can't be just as engaging, collaborative and informative as face to face training. I believe the key is to develop an environment of respect and acceptance. If that setting is in place, then participants will be ready to receive, process and reflect on new understandings.

I know I can use so much of what I've learned to be an effective facilitator for DXP as well as for what I do for my district. The effective feedback pieces were probably the most impactful for me as this is something I am always trying to work on. Thanks for being such a great facilitator, Julie!

LM
The online facilitation has given me a new meaning to my professional development. I have learned a lot about myself and from others within the last few weeks. It has taught me that we need to continue to have that growth mindset. We all had to change our way of teaching and learning really quickly. For those that may be discouraged because of the quick change we can use this experience as a testimony that in our career we need to be flexible and open to learn everyday. I felt like I have grown as a facilitator and had a few a-ha moments that will change the way I facilitate and learn. There were a lot of reminders of what I had learned and an expansion to my tool box. Mahalo to all of you for a great training and experience!

The flow and wealth of strategies we've received have truly helped form me as I continue to develop my identity as an online educator/facilitator. I appreciated the interaction with my group and felt heard, validated, yet also received many ideas to add to my toolbox. In all honesty, I'm going to miss the way a F2F session feels, yet I look forward to growing my skill set and still igniting participants' passion-virtually! If I were to offer any comments; it would be around the timing of this training. The two-week daily check in is a lot--especially as an administrator-at the end of the year. Some days were faster than others-but as we're trying to close out a school and have additional coordination, I'd request that these trainings be held earlier in the year.
Thanks to this thoughtful group for growing me, and to Julie for her stewardship!

First, let me say this: DANG! THE GROUP HERE IS MADE UP OF SOME SMART PEOPLE! As much as I am learning from the training materials and activities, I am learning equally as much from the posts of the group. I am fascinated by the posts, and am taking notes on others' ideas every single day. Most helpful to me has been the opportunity to practice turning feedback into GOOD feedback, and the ICF Framework. I have re-read the Grant Wiggins article several times (and will probably read it again). I am truly grateful for this opportunity to learn very relevant tools and techniques--things I can use as a digital staff developer, and things I can use right now as I am planning summer virtual PD for the teachers in my district, and next fall, should we have to quarantine again. Although I always love to learn, I honestly don't recall the last time I engaged in training with such a sense of urgency. Thanks to everyone here for your thoughts and ideas. I am very much looking forward to next week's learnings! L(isa) M

There are so many things the reflect on and be grateful for here! I am learning so much from my own reflecting/ learning but that learning is hiked up a few dozen notches as I read others' thinking. The 30-second feedback protocol; our thinking and learning around providing effective feedback--avoiding judgement and advice, making it actionable and invitational; the ICF Framework; the references to the APLP booklet--all of these are impressive resources by themselves. What makes this course so helpful to me is the repeating of themes through all these resources: we are going to build relationships and trust with participants, we are going to guide from the side, provide timely and effective feedback that's based on listening and coach towards the intent of the syllabus, and we'll debrief and summarize with them to tell the story of our community of learning. What a cool job!! I'm excited to learn about the syllabus next week to see how this rubber meets the road.
KM

I appreciate how the work encouraged comparing the face to face professional learning to digital. This helped me to make the necessary connections, so I can use tools I have in this learning. I think this institute has allowed me to see how you monitor and adjust when facilitating digital learning. Thank you to my colleagues within this experience and to Julie for guiding us. Good luck everyone when you start your DigitalXP Facilitation!

I may not see anyone virtually, but it feels as though we have been working side by side for years. I have truly appreciated learning ways to provide positive feedback and I practice those skills when providing recommendations and commendations to my sites. There is much to 'master' and slow and steady is my approach right now to truly have those skills be part of my tool-belt. Once we are in our CoP, uneasy feelings may come up, as part of the natural process with anything new. But, the fact that I feel equipped is the best feeling yet!

Each day I was able to connect the conversation to DXP facilitation, but also to my other educational roles. I found many of the supplemental resources helpful especially Wiggins' article on feedback and the various templates and scenarios. I feel like the learning gave me confidence for DXP facilitation and also reaffirmed that effective facilitation cannot happen without building relationships and trust with participants whether the training is face-to-face or online .

This is not a surprise given that AVID has a strong history of preparing us to provide the best possible experiences for our participants, but it is a refreshing reminder that AVID is adapting to changing times but is keeping their core values and mission at the forefront. I've appreciated the connection I've formed with others in this course and with Julie in particular as she has made sure to stay connected with me throughout the last two weeks.
