Critical thinking is the process of actively conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information generated by, observation, experience, reflection, or reasoning, as a guide to action and belief. This process requires a lot of attention and brain function. When a critical thinking approach is applied to education, it helps the student's brain function better and understands texts differently when they do the scholar’s work.

The source explains the importance of EAP (English for Academic Purposes) classrooms for transformative learning. In these classes with students from different backgrounds, they develop the skills necessary to pass the English language entry testing procedures. Wilson (2016) sustains that students are invariably strongly motivated to learn, but at the same time desperately anxious to pass whatever language test faces they.
For those students who need to prepare for university in English-speaking contexts, they will need more than basic language skills like writing, reading, listening, and speaking; they will develop their critical thinking. Wilson (2016) argued that EAP students need to begin to READ critically. This is an aspect of EAP which is often overlooked as most courses focus heavily on the observable output of critical thinking-writing.
For most of those students, critical thinking is a new concept because they come from different backgrounds with different levels of education, but is a must for them to achieve critical thinking in order to continue their study in higher education in English-speaking contexts.

References:
Wilson, K.

Moore (2013) refers to critical thinking as a nearly necessary criteria of all western universities. Considering that, it ramifies on a range of a few approaches on how people see and apply critical thinking nowadays. Starting with the knowledge of immigration and multicultural existence in West, the idea of critical thinking could be found in forms of either religious, traditional, level of severity of one's way of expressing its own opinions or even labelling one as being constantly critic.
Critical thinking started to move the ideologists' minds when it became important to analyse a concept from more than one perspective, and it started to create competition between the great minds of our society, each of them having to find a different approach based on the people they had access to, hence the severity of one's way of expressing it is mostly considered critical thinking, not because it is spoken in its deepest meaning, but because is different.
Therefore, the importance of introducing critical thinking into students requirements at university started when people were allowed to misjudge a great leader's sayings or works. The freedom of having people take their own knowledge or the level of importance they put on it has made the skill of critically thinking become even more available among peer groups of any kind, making everything worthy of being critical over.
To discuss it over, having one being critical over something does mostly lead to discover new idea or bringing a new perceptive on the same concept, as it allows people to have their own lenses to filter their reality through.
However, to reach a level of thinking critically it requires small steps of being critical on the primal instincts such as observation, followed by a state of always questioning everything and everyone (might lead to judging people to certain extent), critically reading and critically writing, leading eventually to critically thinking, a constant state of curiosity.
Curiosity of what leads most people to start few projects, to discover a new subject, an untouched work or underdeveloped area, and it does make people bring their best because of the uniqueness of their subject that has been built through their curiosity, through their critically thinking attitude, as Davies and Barnett (2015) suggest, some students develop a critical disposition, a helpful skill to serve whilst studying and beyond.

Wilson K., 2016, Critical reading, critical thinking: Delicate scaffolding in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Thinking Skills and Creativity Vol. 22, pp. 256- 265.

Critical thinking is of most importance when it comes to education and preparation for various university courses. Davies and Barnett (2015) successfully identify the theories of critical thinking. The material reports their findings and sheds it’s light to the three EAP ( English for academic purposes) learning contexts in Australia. All these contexts mainly focus on cognitive skills.
The paper suggests that the process of critical thinking can be developed in different ways in order to support the students to feel confident and secure while participating.
During these activities EAP (English for academic purposes) in the classrooms the results are immense. Students are creating skills which would help them develop in later stage of their educational process . Even thou the process can be challenging it creates an exciting culture and motivates them further.
According to Moore (2013) critical thinking takes a central part in the university education. However most of the EAP student do not have the needed experience in critical thinking. Bali (2015) argues that this may be a result of their background- political or religious , and differs according to the individual circumstances and social capital.

Wilson K. 2016, Critical reading , critical thinking : Delicate scaffolding in English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
Thinking skills and creativity

This essay aims to show the results of a specific study (ethnographic), based on three courses Those courses, which are known as English for Academic Purposes, observe critical reading (EAP). It is stated that critical reading can be seen in different lines depending on the students and their attitudes and thoughts.

In these classes, meeting diverse groups from all around, students challenge themself and found new perspectives. This involves four main study skills "reading, writing, learning, speaking", helping them to go successfully through the entry exam (Wilson, 2007).

As Moor (2013) argues, critical thinking is very important for the university and students' papers. That is why you can meet critical reading in almost every university. Precisely, lots of scientists state that knowing foreign languages and practising them can develop your critical thinking and reading.

Reference:
Wilson, K.

Critical reading is at the heart of effective scholarly research activities and even programs such as English for Academic Purposes (EAP). While there are many ways to read a text, critical reading becomes the most advisable way of reading most academic activities, especially in the western world (Wilson 2016). Critical reading is important because of several reasons. First, it enhances a reader's understanding of the arguments and ideas highlighted in the literature. Rote and memorizing type of reading without comprehension and in-depth analysis of the literature would make one part with nothing, or at least minimal concept. However, incorporating critical reading techniques underscores every line, enriching the person's understanding. Proper understanding would translate to easy identification of gaps and biases in the existing literature, which forms the basis for further research in each subject, demystifying further the power of critical thinking. Critical reading also presents the reader with various concepts and allows them to understand a given subject from various perspectives, which is the center of academics (Wilson 2016). Understanding concepts from a different angle would enable one to interpret literature and deduce a logical conclusion from a personal standpoint.

Reference

Wilson, K. 2016.

The importance of critical reading is that it helps develop minds that will critically think, evaluate and assess. Higher Education students are expected to own criticality skills, especially critically writing or thinking.
Although Moore (2013) states that critical thinking is the most important ability that students of western universities need to develop, it has been argued that critical reading is the foundation of the academic world (Chanock et al, 2012). In order to be able to develop a critical way of thinking, students need to learn how to critically read. This aspect takes into consideration the fact that the learning process of the students has been shaped by the different backgrounds and different cultures that they belong to, therefore learning how to critically read, will develop a critical way of thinking.

Wilson, K.
