Today has been an incredible opportunity that I will never forget. Learning first hand about the traditional music of Guadeloupe was a real honour. I found it fascinating how music can be used as a form of communication and story telling. It was also a great way to feel motivated and inspired to simply get up on my feet and enjoy the present moment.

I thoroughly enjoyed today’s experience. It has inspired me to plan how to integrate today’s learning into my classroom and the school as a whole. It was great to see how all of the instruments were made using seeds and fruits from the garden. There was very little reliance on other materials; just natural resources and your own voice. The combination of instruments, dance and song offers a valuable way of sharing cultural knowledge and the natural heritage of this country.

Today I have seen the paradise : It' s George's garden in Guadeloupe. He and Michel know so much about the flowers, herbs and spices. And music bring people together. Singing and drumming join cultures and besides we had a lot of fun all together.

Actually I'm still speachless by all impressions I got today.
This was an real amazing and creative classroom. We met very friendly open minded people. Mister George and Michel patiently showed and explained everything in their exotic and wonderful garden. For the first time of my life I saw a nutmegtree - just to remember one of the many plants.
To beat the drums made really fun. The music made us feel fantastic and grow together no matter what country or colour.
We were allowed to live a Caribian day - an incredible expirience!

If the first day was a great and amazing session, today was better! We've learned a lot about plants from these islands in this special and magic garden, George's garden. But this wasn't all.... the best surprise was MUSIC! This session was so delightful that everyone of the group enjoyed it and we didn't need spoken words to be completely sure that so it was. Music is all around us, anywhere we are and anytime in our life, since we come to this world, with the first crying, which is the most beautiful song that a mother can hear; for the baby, the mother's whispering voice is the first contact with music, that makes him or her feel peace and tranquility.
I remember a song of Michel Sardou, a French singer. It's a fantastic song to listen to and to sing because it makes us see and understand the importance of songs and music in our lives since the first to the last breathing. Singing and music is something that everybody share anywhere and any time they live. Let's enjoy and live the music like we did today!

Session 2 has been a surprise to discover the essence, colours, smells and rhythms of the traditional music of Guadeloupe. First entering Barnabé's "Jardin Botanique" was something very special and enjoyable. Barnabé or Georges (Here they have several names) and Michel explained to us the secrets of plants and their use for healthy and daily life. I was impressed by the cacao tree I had never seen before. Awesome! Then we saw them in action, picking up the sugar cane to prepare natural juice.
The second part was dedicated to speak first about music and to know the workshop of Barnabé who recycles and makes drums, Music has always played an important role in human society and specially for the Guadeloupians. The GWO KA drums go back to the 18th century (Period of enslavement in this island)
Today's session allows me to reflect and take advantage of it for my school. We have 20% of immigrants, mostly from Cape Vert. The sounds and tribal dances of "BatukaTabanka", a group of women (many are our students' mothers or grandmothers should come more often to act in our school for all our children . Quote for this session: "MUSIC CAN CHANGE THE WORLD BECAUSE IT CAN CHANGE THE PEOPLE"
