SIGNS & SIMPTOMS
Fever , cold hands and feet
Vomiting
Drowsy, difficult to wake.
Confusion and irritability.
Severe muscle pain.
Pale, blotchy skin. spots/ rash
Severe headache.
Stiff neck .
HOW TO RESPOND.
Babies and yound children are particularly vulnerable to meningitis as they cannot easily fight infection because their immune system is not fully developed. In nursery setting we need to seek medical advised from the first aider in the setting and inform the parents or carer to come and collect the child immediately to be taken to see the GP or go to the hospital . The rash usually starts as small, red pinpricks before spreading quickly and turning into red or purple blotches. It doesn't fade if you press the side of a clear glass firmly against the skin. If a rash doesn't fade under a glass, it's a sign of blood poisoning (septicaemia) caused by meningitis and you should get medical advice right away.

The rash can be harder to see on dark skin. Check for spots on paler areas like the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, the tummy, inside the eyelids, and the roof of the mouth.

we need to bring the child in a comfortable place to make the child free more relax and to prevent spreading infection to other children or adult in the setting also make sure we do not give the child anything to eat this can upset them more . We should keep an eye on the child until the parent/ carer collect the child.

symptoms:
* Fever.
* Sore throat.
* Painful, red, blister-like lesions on the tongue, gums and inside of the cheeks.
* A red rash, without itching but sometimes with blistering, on the palms, soles and sometimes the buttlocks.
" Irritability in infants and toddlers.
Signs:
one sign the child may have is a cough, running nose and hot body temperature from having a fever. Another sign is if they have a sore throat they may have a hard time swallowing their food so they might bring it back up. You may also notice their body color changing with red marks or bumps. Lastly the child may cry, sleep alot and not want to participate in class from irritability of being ill.

Response:
* As practitioner's we will record and report that they are ill to the first aider and their parents. We will also remove them from the other children so they do not become ill as well. Then we will make sure they are ok by comforting and keeping an eye on them. We will get consent from parents in regards to giving them any medication. Moreover, we will inform parents that they will need to go home and take them to the gp until they are well.
A link for more information about this illness:
