Dear scholarship committee

My name is Stephen Ayeni. I am 20 years old. The reason I would like to join this course is because I would like to improve all of my performance skills in hopes of one day becoming a "triple threat" all round performer. The experience I have in on stage performing is minimal. I have very little from work experience, I have helped friends with short film projects, also professional directors from casting websites. But Most of my experience in on stage acting, dancing and singing took place at school and college. I regularly take part in college open mic sessions and events just to have an opportunity to perform a musical number with my guitar or a spoken word I wrote. For the last 2 years I have been studying BETC performing arts at City of Westminster College. Which I consecutively completed the levels of the coarse starting form level 1. I am now in level 3. In my time of being on this course I have seen a lot of young "performers" that claim to have similar aspirations to that of my own. I have seen them come and go but I still remain on this coarse hoping that I'll achieve my goal. Throughout, my mind state hasn't changed but I have learned a lot about the industry which has made doubts in my heart but at the same time even more ambitious.

I understand that achieve something like that is a long shot, because becoming successful in the entertainment industry has never been easy. For a while I could honestly say that I had other career plans in mind if performing never worked out for me. But that has changed. When I was in level 2 I met another student in level 3. The 2 of us become close friends and one night performed an acoustic song in a bar in central London. That was the night I realised that performing is all I want to do. My friend and I really changed the atmosphere of the entire bar just by performing a couple songs. At that moment I realised that I've always liked to impress people, ever since I was young. I get a bright feeling when somebody's face lights up from watching me do something cool like pulling off an interesting dance move or impersonating someone or even playing guitar. Even with my part time job I would dance to the shop floor music and my colleagues were easily impressed and customers gravitated to me. The thing is I am naturally a people person. I live a life of positivity, and never bear hate or dislike towards another individual even if they upset me. And I think that's a great quality that every performer should have. The fact is the art of performing was created out of the simple concept of entertainment.

Back when television didn't exist and theatre hadn't yet been born. Kings and queens would seek entertainment through certain slaves they had known as "the joker". This slave had many talents. Dance, sing, stand-up comedy, magic tricks, music. The joker was ultimate performer, no one could take their eyes off him when he performed. But more importantly, when he performed he became the king and everyone else became the slaves.

All in all, all I want to do is perform in front of people, I want to gain new skills and master old ones. I’m not hoping to one day be famous, I would just like to me doing it professionally. I believe that this is a healthy route for me to take

universes
