In the Franklin Expedition, the tin cans used as a source of food and food storage, sadly the men a part of the expedition did not know of the lead poising that would be the death of them. The journey that Jane and Vincent took in the relationship was great, both got along, and Jane believed that it could become a greater relationship romantically. Although, she had believed it and wanted it to be true, she knew deep down that the romantic relationship would not be. This stood out to me because it reminds me of Jane and Vincent relationship and how it was doomed from the beginning. It was a toxic relationship just as bad as the cans. The author put this parallel between the two to add that extra depth to their relationship. If you notice each part of the story lines up with the documentary she watches and over all just adds a lot of depth.
