The competitive exclusion principle states when two species with identical niches cannot coexist indefinitely. The difference between primary and secondary succession is that secondary succession occurs in an area that had previous life while primary succession is completely barren land. An example of commensalism is when tree frogs use plants as protection because the frog is benefitting while the plant is unaffected. Parasitism happens when fleas or ticks live on dogs/cats. They are living off of the blood of the host animal and harming them. Bees and flowers have a mutualistic relationship because they both benefits. The flowers provide bees with nectar and pollen and bees help flowers reproduce by spreading pollen.

Ecosystems and communities is one of the most important chapters in our lessons. Ecosystems provide services to humans that make life possible. Life is dependent upon ecosystems and as a society a healthy ecosystem is one of the most important things.
