It began inside rats. Inside the rats they have bacteria called yersinia. Fleas that then bite a rat will take in Yersinia, but a toxin inside of it blocks the abdomen of the flea so it cant swallow the blood from the rat. The flea gets full and then moves on to a human and bites him/her. The flea then vomits the Yersinia onto the human and then the first human infected by the plague began infecting everyone else. The black death then spread to Caffa on trade ships which contained infected rats and infected people. Christians accused Jews of poisoning public water supplies in an effort to ruin European civilization. Because of this Christians believed that Jews were to be blame for the black death. The Christians then went on a rampage by burning the Jews alive. Some Jews that wanted to be baptized were kept alive. Some Jewish children were taken from their families to be baptized while their families were taken to be burnt alive. If they had been poor and if the feudal lords had not been in debt to them, they would not have been burnt.

Some people that are religious believed that the plague was sent by God so the main prevention was prayer and other religious acts. The doctors that treated a sick patient was called a plague doctor. They wore a mask to prevent them from catching the disease which they thought was in the air. Before a doctor could treat a sick patient he/she had to ask if they had confessed. some doctors believed that bleeding the patient would help to release the poisons from the body. It also increased the income for the peasants and workers. As people were dying it left farm land unattended so the animals were killed which put more meat on the market and the land was used for pasture. As the peasants started to get wealthier the upper class tried to change some rules so the peasants couldn't act and dress as a higher class person.
