Group 1 -The Bear and The Two Friends - Characters:

This story has three main
characters: the bear and the two friends. The interesting thing about their
names is that we do not know them; they are not given in the tale. The friends
seem to be close to one another, loyal and honest. Later we see that one of
them is not so loyal to his friend because he betrays him and does not keep his
promise to him. The kind, lovely bear is personified here and gets magical
abilities when the friend who was abandoned tells us about what the bear whispered
to him. The bear is the main character in this story. It teaches us the message
and the important moral of the story.

The titles of folktales are usually
very simple and straightforward. The may contain the main characters in the
story, the prominent occurrence in the story or the setting the story takes
place in. The title here- "The two friends and the bear" tells us
about what characters we are about to read about and the relationships between
them. For example, there is this story we all know about the boy who shouted
"Wolf, wolf" so we can simply call it "The boy who shouted wolf
wolf".

The story has two four main occurrences
divided into opening, midst of the story, and ending. The story opens with the
two friends walk through the forest and promise to one another they will stay
together in any case of danger. Later on, the notice a big scary bear coming
towards them. As a response, one of them is running quickly to find a safe
place to hide in while the second has no time to do so too and hopelessly lie
down on the ground with his hands covering his head. Then, the bear appears to
be not scary at all when it band down softly towards the man's ear and leaves
quickly away. Finally, the friends meet again on the ground and the hopeless friend
proves his friend about what he did, and we all learn the message the story is
aimed to convey. In the story we find personification which is a literary
element of giving human qualities to non-human entities.

The moral set by the story is that a
friend in need a friend indeed. In addition, the story tells us (in the voice
of the bear) that we'd better choose our friends carefully, so we won't get
disappointed by them in case of crucial situation. The message is really
