According to the book Genocide by Margaret Haerens it states "One genocide survivor interviewed by Human Rights Watch broke down in tears, saying he was ashamed he had been too frightened to testify in defense of a Hutu man who had saved his life and those of more than a dozen of his relatives." (122-123). After the genocide the people who were left were questioned. This man was afraid of the consequence if he testified in defense of this man. Also, from Britannica School encyclopedia it claims "the events of 1994 continued to weigh heavily in the early 21st century, as trials continued for those accused of taking part in the genocide."The events of the genocide continue to impact the daily lives of the Rwanda citizens. " Melchior Ndadye, was assassinated. Ndadye, a Hutu, was killed by RPF (Rwandan Patriotic Front) soldiers. The RPF tried to assert control over Burundi, but it was driven back by Hutu forces. This failed coup ended with the deaths of thousands of Burundi Tutsis at the hands of Burundi Hutus. In retaliation Tutsis killed Hutus." (20).  The death of thousand Tutsis at the hands of the Hutu's sparked a rage in the Tutsis. They decided to retaliate and kill the Hutu's. The book The Crime of Genocide: Terror against Humanity by Ray Spangenburg and Kit Moser  it says" In 1994, the roads of Rwanda were crowded with people fleeing for their lives... hundred of thousands of Tutsi refugees crowded into camps across the border in Zaire, unable to return to their homeland." (65-66). When the citizens of Rwanda saw their neighbors being brutality mutated and killed they fled for their lives. They sought refugee in the neighboring countries such ad Tanzania, Zaire, and Burundi. The article from BBC News called Rwanda Genocide: 100 Days of Slaughter claims "Weapons and hit-lists were handed out to local groups, who knew exactly where to find their targets... The Hutu extremists set up radio stations and newspapers which broadcast hate propaganda, urging people to "weed out the cockroaches" meaning kill the Tutsis. The names of those to be killed were read out on radio. " The Hutu were encouraged to kill. They were given weapons and lists that had Tusti names on them. The Hutu were to kill the people on these lists.
