I believe that technology might help a student become A more autonomous learner with using technology. They can take more risks & if it takes them a little longer noone  will know. It makes the environment safer for the kids that don’t want to perticipate.

I have learned that technology can increase a students' learning and help them beyond the pencil/paper work that has been typically used in and out of the classroom. This can assist in differentiation and student collaboration.

I have seen such engagement of students when I go into classrooms that are collaborating on the breakout sessions.

My a-ha moment was Wow, I have wasted previous time in the mornings when students arrive by not having meaningful reading available. I want to try the Non-fiction reading first thing in the morning by posting a URL on the board and having students read and respond to the text read.

My camera is not working. But my "ah-ha" moment was on page 5 when it says, "Oftentimes we combine this structure with unstructured experimentation by allowing students some time to play with the new tool before the lesson begins."
I often stress about introducing a new app to kinder. But by allowing them first to explore it may make it easier for me to introduce it.

I am using some GT budget money to purchase headphones with built-in microphones, so the students will get better quality recordings.
I need to do more of creating anchor charts like the one on pg. 44. Great visual and saves time repeating instructions and creates a routine.
The try it out of studying an image. I use Ian Byrd's puzzlements to do this with the GT students. I show an image, they jot down questions, wonders, etc. We go over questions and then they can research the image further if they are interested.

After Reading Chapter 3 I would make sure that the children are aware of how to read online print. It was interestesting to see that reading online is different than reading actual text. I guess as adults, we have learned to tune out extraneous information.

One thing to implement in my classroom is to make sure that the children are having ample opportunities to complete work as both pencil/paper as well as online. Both ways need to be taught.

I thought this was a really important part, giving students ownership in their learning. They need to work hard, investigate, and converse to build knowledge. Teachers should be the "guide on the side".

This really made me think of how classroom meetings build that sense of community in the classroom! The students working well together doesn't happen by accident for sure- our awesome Boals teachers model and practice this with their students.

I LOVE the section that discussed building a community of learners! I believe we do a great job of this at Boals. The book gave some great examples of building that community and how that can help our students communicate in person and online. I also liked the idea of anchor charts for technology communications so that the students are committed to being positive in their communications.

I liked the section that discussed differentiating instruction. I liked the examples of how digital learning and conversations can be differentiated based on students' abilities. The use of sentence stems is so important -- in writing, conversing, and in technology!

Currently in my classroom, I'm trying to find effective ways to differentiate instruction and something that I have been doing for my struggling students is allowing them to engage with their classmates more when they need help, rather than just depending on me (Chapter 3, page 53). I have also established a classroom where students have pledged to uphold expectations that they came up with as a community during a class meeting. They committed by signing their names (Chapter 3, page 55).

What I would like to add to my classroom environment as a result of reading this chapter is to utilize digital images during writer's workshop. I think it would be neat to use pictures to help generate writing ideas, as well as to identify genres (Chapter 3, pages 50 & 51).

I'm really thinking about extending our class Seesaw with creating a SeeSaw blog (p.61 on blog comments). After hearing about the great comments the students have made in their journals, I think it is a great way to extend the community of our classroom beyond its walls.

I would love to implement opportunities of the read, write and talk with my students. I also like having students stopping while reading and talking about what they have read. Reading will become more meaningful Deen

I really like the section about balancing digital and printed text. I think it's super important to be sure that the technology does not hinder them.

I think it's important that there's a balance between digital and printed text. Students may get used to using digital text and the benefits and accommodations that may be given via digital text that they may not be able to receive via printed text. Thus, it may become a crutch that might not be most beneficial in the long run.

I love the idea of studying an image or video clip and then having a discussion about it. I think this would be a great way to help build inferring skills and spark deeper thinking.

We focus on teaching our Kinders that tech is more than apps and games. They can create and communicate with each other and parents. However, we agree that they still need to work on fine motor skills using paper and tools.
